Redz, help me out here:

1. What is your source for this "plan" to get Jamaicans to switch over? Is it just speculation on your part or do you have a real source?
2. Where did you hear/read that they tried to get him to sound more American? Cunningham has been in America since his early teens and speaks with a twang every now and again.
3. From what I remember, he only played one game for Jamaica, against Ghana under Simoes in a friendly, who else did he play against and when?
4. You say that "when Simoes did want him he was already snapped up by the USA". How is this possible when Simoes left Jamaica in 2000 and Cunningham didn't start playing for the US until late 2001?

As I see it, if Jamaica did want him, we had every opportunity to line up the youth all MLS 2001 season long when he was burning up the place for the Crew. You may remember that Cunningham went to Germany after the 2001 season (a season where he scored 10+ and made 10+ assists for CC) - he got his US citizenship late that same year and CHOSE to play for America presumably because that was a much higher probability to get to the World Cup.

I don't think there was any glimmer, he either did what he wanted to do or we blew it. You can't blame America for either one.

I have been here since I was 15 teen and I really consider myself full Jamaican but I can twan. Cunningham can not twan for nothing he has a strong Jamaican accent no twan at all he may have now gained a little understanding where you may guess what country he is from if he is talking to certain people but that is it.

After the Ghana game Simoes did not call him again then he was aproached by the USA to switch and he would have gotten his green card processed faster. So he did not play for the USA until 2001 but he could not play for us because he had to wait for his Green Card to represent the USA.

I don't know if you knew this he had to get his green card to play for them so that is why he did not come back to us and this I can understand from him but not the USA THAT IS SHAMEFUL check it out and you will see.

Your statement saying if Jamaica wanted him they would have gotten him is false he was asked to comeback when Simoes was still there and after he left but he could not because he had already comitted to the USA training with them and so on.

He was also waiting for his papers to represent the USA in this time period. He did not go to America because he had a better chance to qualify why would you say that when we just made the World Cup the year before.

If we had him we would have had a better chance they took him from us for sure. You do your home work and see what I am talking about, since they took him he should have went to the World Cup with them for sure BUT THEY DID NOT TAKE HIM WITH THEM WHY?

Redz - are you saying that the USA brought Cunningham into their team under false pretense? If so, you need more supporting evidence. If you know him personally, then you should have better insight as your "facts" are conjecture and don't add up.

For example, he got his CITIZENSHIP in 2001, not his green card as you CAN'T play for a country that you are not a citizen of or where you don't have family linkage (parents or grandparents).

Secondly, Cunningham scored 10+ goals and 10+ assists in the 2001 MLS campaign, clearly establishing himself as one of the league's best talents...why wouldn't the USA want him in their squad?

And lastly, Jamaica's qualifying campaign came to an end long before their loss to the USA in October 2001; Cunningham didn't debut for America until December. So if he thought that Jamaica would have had a good chance of Korea 2002, he would have played for us from the start of the campaign in March 2001; clearly he didn't so one must surmise that he chose to wait until he got his US citizenship, playing for them within weeks of getting his papers.

When you see him again ask him if the Americans put a gun to his head. I would be interested in the answer.

Redz, you have to understand that you are making very aggressive allegations that don't serve to do anything but create uncertainty and doubt in a very important relationship between America and Jamaica (and the rest of the Caribbean for that matter). So while you don't think anything of it, excuse a contemplative and responsible man for asking for proof.

Surely you understand that American universities and the MLS are viable and valid conduits for our players to advance their careers, so when say that [Americans are deliberately targeting certain players so they cannot represent their country of birth] and that [these players are being coerced, forced and/or bribed] it is important to back it up with more than hearsay. Yet you’ve provided nothing but conjecture.

The one thing I DO KNOW is that it is a country's OBLIGATION to ACT in their OWN BEST INTEREST. America is no different!! I can guarantee you that if Cunningham was the best player for the USA to take to the World Cup, they would have taken him, and he would have surely gone...but he wasn’t good enough or more fairly, his form wasn’t good enough.

In preparing for the World Cup, Coach Bruce Arena selected five forwards for his Gold Cup roster: Landon Donovan, Brian McBride, Jeff Cunningham, Ante Razov and Josh Wolff (Clint Mathis was held in the wings due to injury). McBride emerged as the CLEAR first choice and Arena CHOSE to pair him with Donovan.

Cunningham and Razov were simply not on form, but of course you would have us believe that Razov was originally selected to play for the US so that Croatia couldn’t get him, just like he selected Cunningham just so Jamaica couldn’t get him – think about how absurd that argument is.
