  • We should take a page out of Surinam's book

    Although the former Dutch colony (named Dutch Guiana, until 1975) is located in South America, it competes in CONCACAF, together with Guyana and French Guiana. Suriname won the CFU Championship (Digicel Caribbean Cup predecessor) in 1978, were runners-up in 1979 and reached fourth place in 1994 and 1996. Until the independence of Suriname in 1975, it competed as the Dutch Guiana national football team. Unlike in the Netherlands Antilles, another former Dutch colony, it is ruled that players who move abroad to play in the Netherlands are not eligible to play for Suriname.[1] Many Suriname-born players and Dutch-born players of Surinamese descent, like Royston Drenthe, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard, Edgar Davids, Clarence Seedorf, Andwélé Slory, Aron Winter, Romeo Castelen, and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink turned out to play for Oranje.

    So you agree with the 6 + 5 that FIFA wants to implement ...and their rationale for doing so?

      Yep! I agree, even though I probably shouldn't from my perspective of wanting to get Jamaicans contracts abroad.

        And that rule ensures that you will never see Suriname competing in the World Cup finals.

          Ooops!

          Anyway, I said a page, not the whole book!

            Well, I don't see the 6 + 5 being implemented in Europe, the big clubs have too much invested in their foreign players, particularly the EPL;

            ...and as for the page, it must be taken from a two-page book for it is very critical.
