  • Tappa Whitmore;can he cope with being the top man?

Forumites i am sure i can speak for the majority of us in wanting Tappa to be a successful head coach for the national team, however there must be a note of caution that things might not be as straight forward as it seem.Tappa is a young coach with limited experience and could easily be overwhelmed by the pressures of the job.I know people will be saying he's done the job on a care taker basis with a record of 3 wins from 3 games, however this is a completely different ball game. Now its is responsibility to take Jamaica's football forward dealing with the media, pleasing some of the most hard to please fans in the world and maintaining Jamaica's steady climb up the FIFA rankings so potential local stars can achieve thier dreams by plying thier trade in England. It's a tough task but he can start by winning the Gold Cup .Will the JFF give him time to be a success if he gets off to a bad start?.

I think he can handle it. What I would like to see though, is Tappa on the sidelines wearing a suit.

Well Jangle i dont care what he wears as long as he is winning football matches. As a Tappa fan i hope he is successful and stays in the job for a long time i'm getting fed up with this chopping and changing.Right now the program needs stability. If he is the right man now will he be the right man if they lost 3 games on the bounce?

I expected that response. The most important thing is for him to win, however, I believe that the coach wearing a suit on the sidelines goes a long way in how he and his team is viewed as a professional. The coach's performance on the sidelines is closely monitored by the tv cameras, and a such a dvd (along with his team's performances) could go a far way in boosting Tappa's CV.

Tappa will put out 'fighting' TEAMs.
The looking towards the Gold Cup just went up a notch! (Edge of seat thing...now!)

Also, he should speak in standard English and leggo the patwa. I heard an ad of him promoting the WC between Jamaica & Mexico and the pawta neva sound professional. If he is going to have any appeal with the corporate community & sponsors he should polish up his image.

                      Should could would....

Simoes take us to the world cup wearing polo shirts.

As for Tappa and the standard english. He should communicate in whatever way he can effectively get across his message. If we don't feel he does a good job at the PR aspects, then let him focus on results and make the admin deal with that aspect.

That expectation right there already dooms the lad to failure. From what I understand, the JFF (understandably) want a high profile manager, but it doesn't sound like they can pay for it. There is the problem. Tappa can coach, but to give him the top job now may not be in his best interest. It would be great if he could join a coaching staff elsewhere, but that is a very tough row to hoe as those opportunities don't pop up every day.
