Witnessing Meadhaven United - the only club he has ever represented - succumb to the rigours of the Digicel Premier League (DPL) in its maiden season is a gaping wound that still lingers in the mind of flagship striker Keammar Daley.
Daley. hoping his handlers will be able to secure a contract with an international outfit
However, with his ongoing mellowing into the plans of national coach John Barnes, Daley certainly has a lot of positives to look forward to these days.
The 20-year-old, who bagged 12 goals in the just-concluded DPL season, announced his arrival onto the scene in 2007 with an impressive tournament topping four-goal tally and some mouth-watering performances at the Pan American Games in Brazil - a performance that fuelled Jamaica's historical march into the championship final and an ultimate silver medal.
Two years have passed since Daley's heroics in the 'Land of Football' and the former Jamaica College prodigy known to the football public as 'Dada' is aiming for even greater frontiers, with his first objective being to cement a place in the competitive Reggae Boyz squad.
Said Daley: "It's a great feeling to be a part of this team and I give God thanks. It has been a very rough road and for me personally it's a fulfilment of a personal goal to wear the national colours.
"Right now I'm focused on getting to the highest level possible. I won't stop here; this is just the first step and in order to walk a hundred steps you have to take the first one, so I'm just taking it one step at a time," he added.
With an impressive local campaign under his belt, the stocky goal-getter is now eying a possible move to a European club after ruling out appearing for Meadhaven in the KSAFA Super League.
There has been no offers to date, but Daley is hoping his handlers will be able to secure a contract with an international outfit before the start of next season, and he has clear ideas about his preferred destinations.
"England is definitely my first choice, but not everyone will be successful there and so Norway seems like a very good channel to start off.
"If I get the chance to play there I would grab the opportunity," shared Daley.
He added: "I have a few things working on with a couple clubs locally in case something is not ironed out in time. I don't have an agent, but my lawyer is working behind the scenes for me, but I certainly won't be playing in the Super League," he emphasised.
For now, the hard-working front man is more than happy to commit his attention to the senior team and the CONCACAF Gold Cup efforts and was quick to underline his determination to make the most of this opportunity.
"It took a lot of hard work and dedication to get to this point and I know that it will take even more to take me where I want to go," he said.
