Text interview as well:
Okay, Shavar. Who's the funniest guy on Chivas USA?
Alecko tries to be funny, but I would have to say myself.
So what makes you funnier than he is?
He tries to make fun of me but I make fun of everyone.
What percent of the Chivas USA roster do you think you could beat in ping-pong?
I'd say seventy percent. We used to play on tables and benches during lunchtime at school in Jamaica.
Who's one player that you're totally sure you could beat?
Zach Thornton.
But he's a goalie! He has great hands!
He has great hands, but I don't think he'd be very good with the racquet.
Who's one player that you think you'd lose to?
Paulo Nagamura looks like a good ping-pong player.
---
How many languages do you speak? I'd say two. English and Patois. It's a mixture of broken English and French.
No Spanish?
I know a little bit of Spanish, but I'm not fluent. I'd have to go live in a Spanish-speaking country before I'd be fluent.
What's the most interesting place you've been in the world?
Ghana. When I was there, it was marvelous. It's a beautiful country. I went there to play, but I got a chance to see a lot of historic sites. We were there for quite some time.
---
What would your theme song be if you could pick one?
I would pick "Lose Yourself" by Eminem. He's talking about losing himself in his music, and I relate it to my game in terms of going onto the field and giving everything. Plus it pumps you up and gets you going.
Who would play you in the Hollywood version of your life?
Denzel Washington. He's my favorite actor. You don't seem him in just one role, he's able to vary his performances.
---
What sports do you like other than soccer?
I like to watch the NFL. I also watch cricket. And track and field is big in Jamaica, we're always glued to the TV set when it's on because you want to see the top runners. In my early track and field days, when I was in high school, I ran the 800 meters. I had some success. I didn't win any medals or anything, but I won a couple of races.
Atiba Harris ran track as a kid as well.
He's probably better than I am. He has more of a runner's body.
What sport are you worst at?
I would say bowling, and I think the team would agree. We all went bowling while we were training in Mexico and I was horrible.
---
Who's the toughest player to play against?
It has to be Yura Movsisyan. He challenges you on every play.
What's the ugliest soccer jersey you've ever seen or worn?
The Kansas City rainbow jerseys.
---
What would be the title of your autobiography?
I would call it "Journeys." My life has taken be to quite a few places. When I was a kid, I used to hear about things like Hollywood on television, but I never dreamed that I would actually be there.
Who's the most famous person in your cell phone?
I have a bunch of guys who play in the premiership in there, but I'd have to say Christopher Gayle. He's captain of the West Indies cricket team. Cricket isn't really that big in the US, but it's huge in other parts of the world.
How did you get his number?
We went to high school together in Jamaica. I bet he's a great ping-pong player.
--- Okay, lastly, here's your quiz for the day. How many appearances has Chivas USA striker Ante Razov made for the US National Team?
Thirty?
Not bad, sir. The answer is 26. Close!
