<P class=StoryText align=justify>Miami, USA - Jamaica's Reggae Girlz wrapped up their three-day training camp in Fort Lauderdale yesterday following an easy 5-0 whipping of a College All Star team at the Willie Webb Park on Thursday night.<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=5 width=120 align=left border=0><TBODY><TR><TD></TD></TR><TR><TD><SPAN class=Description>REID... scored a brace </SPAN></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><P class=StoryText align=justify>Led by a brace from ace striker Venicia 'String Bean' Reid, and assisted by captain Nicole Bell, Peta-Gaye Soman and Diana Hue, the Girlz brushed aside the pick-up team, piling up all their goals before the interval.
Coach Vin Blaine told Sporting World that though the opposition was a shade below par, he thought it was useful practice for his Girlz.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"It was good practice for them because the team (pick-up) played us hard for the first part of the game, and that's exactly what I was looking for, because they are similar to what I expect from the Americans and Canadians," Blaine said.
He added that he also used the opportunity to examine players in "new positions", having resigned to the fact that he will be without three of his regular players who are in the Lindsey Wilson College team.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Blaine's situation was made no easier as Lindsey Wilson College won yesterday and advanced to the semis of the National Championship, where they will compete today for a place in the final set for next Tuesday.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The Reggae Girlz were originally scheduled to play Trinidad and Tobago in Thursday's friendly, but the Trinidadians advised that their entire team would not arrive in Florida in time for the game.
Yesterday, the Girlz moved into the tournament hotel (Intercontinental Miami West), ahead of tomorrow's quarter-final knockout against Panama at the Tropical Park Stadium at 5:00 pm.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago, who meet in tomorrow's second game at 7:00 pm, share the same hotel.
Yesterday coach Blaine took the Girlz through a tactical session at the Tropical Park Stadium for an hour.
While Everton Edwards, who has worked with the US soccer programme as goalkeeper coach, guided the goalkeepers Paula Jackson and Peatria Campbell through their drills, Blaine and assistant coach Xavier Gilbert had the Girlz attacking the goal from deep in defence without opposition.<P class=StoryText align=justify>They looked smooth in transition, but were off target at the finishing end. The Girlz will have a final training session today.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Meanwhile, the CONCACAF Gold Cup, also used as a qualifier for the FIFA Women's World Cup in China next year, will also be used as a qualifier for the 2007 Pan American Games in Brazil.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The CONCACAF region has been awarded four spots - one from the Caribbean, one from central America, and two from North region, consisting Mexico and North American.
Panama have already qualified from Central America, being the top team from that region.<P class=StoryText align=justify>The Reggae Girlz and Trinidad and Tobago are vying for the sole spot from the Caribbean. The team that finishes higher will be awarded that spot, but should both teams fail to advance from tomorrow's encounters, then a method, yet to be decided, will be used to determine the tie-breaker.
Jamaica's men's team (Under-23) has already qualified for the Pan American Games.
