  • Jamal Campbell Ryce's second half strike against Doncaster R

Jamal Campbell Ryce's second half strike against Doncaster Rovers in the 4-1 victory at Oakwell has taken the title of Vital Barnsley's Goal Of The Season 2008/09.

The tricky Jamaican winger picked up the ball in his own half from goalkeeper Heinz Muller, ran from box to box beating several Rovers players before slotting home in front of the Ponty End past Sullivan to fire the Tykes into a 2-1 lead en route to a massive victory for both the club and the under fire manager Simon Davey. He scored 56% of your votes.

In second place was Iain Hume's excellent volley at home to Derby County in the Reds' 2-0 victory with 27%.

13% of the votes meant that third place went to the ex-Barnsley captain Brian Howard for his strike in the opening home game of the season against Coventry City.

Here's hoping there will be a lot more goals to choose from next season!

Yeah I agree lucky. It was a really nice goal. It's one of those he'll tell his grandchildren. He deserves to be in the gold cup squad and starting. He always performs well for us. I pray we take a strong team to the GC. With the WC qualifying teams sending their B teams to the tournament this is really a great opportunity for us to win our first GC ever. - T.K.

Your guess is as good as mine. I really hope he stays as I think the more contacts we have with the UK the better for our local players. I would think JB has a couple friends who coach in the D2 or D1 leagues of England or Scotland who he could recommend players to if he thinks they are worthy. I don't know if JB is necessarily an upgrade over Tappa as far as straight coaching abilities but when you add in his contacts in a part of the world where the vast majority of our players are looking to make the jump to then I think he could be an invaluable asset to us in building our next player pool. - T.K.

Well I guess his primary responsibility is not to get players overseas. I just thought maybe if there was a young Jamaican player with talent JB would have the added benifit of knowing a few people in the UK who could take a look. I could be wrong though. Who knows. - T.K.
