Boyz leave for Haiti friendly in Florida

    Thursday, May 21, 2009

Four players could make their senior international debut against Haiti in a friendly match at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday as they were included in an 18-man squad named by head coach John Barnes.
Daley... could make senior debut against Haiti
The four are forwards Keammar Daley of Meadhaven, Navion Boyd of Tivoli Gardens, Nicholas Addlery of Puerto Rico Islanders and Boys' Town midfielder Michael Campbell.

Of the four, the 30-year-old Campbell is the eldest and has represented Jamaica at the U-20 level, while 27-year-old Addlery has worn the national colours at the U-20 and U-23 levels.

Both Daley, who has played for the country at all age-group levels and was a key part of the country's silver medal-winning football team at the 2007 Pan Am Games in Brazil, and Boyd have played for the national team on a tour of Brazil where the local-based team challenged seven club teams.

Also included is tough-tackling Harbour View midfielder Richard Edwards, who was previously capped by former technical director Bora Milutinovic.

Tranmere Rovers defender Ian Goodison is the most senior member of the group, while U-20 representative Andre Campbell is the youngest.
The 19-year-old impressed during the country's U-20 World Cup qualifying campaign, especially in the final stage in Tobago.

Rivoli United's Devon Hodges, the Digicel Premier League leading scorer with 25 goals who was called for the training squad did not make the final cut because of "US visa issues".

Seventeen of those players will depart the island today, with Goodison set to join the group in Florida.

The highly-anticipated match-up is dubbed the 'Digicel Soccer Feva' and will be central as both peoples from the Jamaican and Haitian Diaspora celebrate Memorial Day Weekend with a Caribbean flavour.

Both Jamaica (ranked 70th by FIFA) and Haiti (ranked 122) are using the game as pre-tournament preparations for the CONCACAF Gold Cup to be staged in the USA in an unprecedented 13 cities from July 3-26.

Haiti and Jamaica first played each other in 1925 and their last meeting, according to eloratings.net, was back on October 1, 2006, where the Boyz were 2-0 winners at the National Stadium in a Digicel Caribbean Cup qualifier.

Meanwhile, Barnes has scheduled a number of training camps prior to the Gold Cup, with the first set to begin on Monday with mostly local-based players.

Jamaica have also secured games against El Salvador on May 30 at RFK Stadium in Washington and Central American champions Panama at the National Stadium on June 7.

Squad: Goalkeepers Shawn Sawyers (Portmore United), Dwayne Miller(Harbour View); defenders Claude Davis (Derby County,UK), Damion Stewart(Queen's Park Rangers,UK), Ian Goodison (Tranmere Rovers, UK), Adrian Reid (Portmore United), Andre Campbell (Portmore United), Rafe Wolfe (Ferencvaros, Hungary); defenders/midfielders Eric Vernon (Portmore United), Oraine Simpson (Tivoli Gardens); midfielders Richard Edwards (Harbour View), Michael Campbell (Boys' Town), Jason Morrison (Ferencvaros, Hungary), Wolry Wolfe (Ferencvaros, Hungary); forwards Keammar Daley (Meadhaven United), Navion Boyd (Tivoli Gardens), Roland Dean (Tivoli Gardens) and Nicholas Addlery (Puerto Rico Islanders).

Which team will have more supporters in the stands?
"Donovan was excellent. We knew he was a good player, but he really didn't do anything wrong in the whole game and made it difficult for us."
