  • Stat Attack: FC Porto

    UEFA's official match press kit ahead of Wednesday night's clash in Portugal contains a barrage of facts and figures.

    Some favour United, some favour FC Porto. Either way, they make for fascinating reading and provide perfect fodder for conversation down the pub...

    (All stats courtesy of UEFA)

    * United have played away after a first-leg home draw on eight occasions in UEFA club competition. The Reds have ended up winning four of those ties.

    * United will extend the record for the longest unbeaten run in the Champions League to 23 games should the team avoid defeat on Wednesday night. The last time the Reds lost in Europe was at the semi-final stage in 2006/07 (v AC Milan).

    * Sir Alex's men haven't won in three previous visits to Porto. In fact, the Portuguese champions have never lost at home to English opposition in 11 matches.

    * Porto have won seven of the eight ties in UEFA club competition in which they have drawn the first leg away from home.

    * United have lost the last four knockout ties in the Champions League when they have played the second leg away from home.

    * This is United's 15th quarter-final tie in Europe's premier club competition. The record: P 14, W 10, L 4.

    * Porto have made five previous appearances in the quarter-finals, winning twice and losing three times.

    * The Portuguese champions have conceded 12 goals in Europe so far this season, the worst defensive record of the sides in the last eight (not
    including QF second leg games played on Tuesday 14 April).

    * Defender Bruno Alves has played every minute of Porto's league season so far.

    * If booked on Wednesday night, Wayne Rooney will miss the semi-final first leg should United progress. For Porto, Rodriguez, Hulk and Sapunaru are all just one caution away from a ban.

    * The Reds have collected only eight yellow cards in this season's European campaign. That's fewer than any other side in the last eight.

      I think Fergie will be starting Giggs .. and I think he may start Berbatov ahead of Tevez.
