Javier 'el Vasco' Aguirre, ex técnico del español Atlético de Madrid, fue nombrado este viernes nuevo seleccionador de fútbol de México en sustitución del sueco Sven-Goran Eriksson, despedido el jueves, anunció la Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (FMF).

'Javier Aguirre será presentado como director técnico de la selección mayor el próximo 16 de abril', informó en un breve comunicado la FMF al explicar que 'el nombramiento cuenta con el apoyo incondicional' de los propietarios de los clubes de fútbol mexicano.
"Javier Aguirre will be introduced as the technical director of the senior team on April 16," according to a brief statement from the FMF. The statement explained "the (Aguirre's) nomination depends on the approval of the owners of the Mexican football clubs
Aguirre dirigió a la selección mexicana durante 2001 y 2002, y sus mayores logros fueron el subcampeonato de la Copa América Colombia-2001 y la clasificación para el Mundial de Corea del Sur y Japón-2002.
'El Vasco' fue cesado en febrero de 2008 del Atlético de Madrid y anteriormente fue timonel durante cuatro años del también español Osasuna.
Aguirre led the Mexican team in 2001, and his best achievements were the championship of the Copa America Colombia in 2001, and qualifying for the World Cup of South Korea/Japan in 2001. He was hired at Atletico Madrid in February 2008 and before that he spent four years at Osasuna, also in Spain.
El también ex jugador mexicano sustituye al sueco Sven-Goran Eriksson, quien el jueves fue despedido de la dirección técnica de México tras la derrota de 3-1 ante Honduras, la noche del miércoles, en el hexagonal clasificatorio de la Concacaf al Mundial de Sudáfrica-2010.

a 3-1 loss at Honduras Wednesday night in the hexagonal qualifying for CONCACAF to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
