Park Chee Sun scored on a free kick in the 81st minute for the win. He entered the game two minutes earlier. His left-footed free kick from the sideline, about 20 yards from the goal line, dropped untouched over a maze of North Korean defenders into the net.
South Korea wasted two glorious chnaces earlier in the second half. Both chances were fired directly into the chest of North Korea's goalkeeper.
North Korea may have caught an unlucky break in the 47th minute. On a counter attack, North Korea appeared to have headed the ball past the goal post, but South Korea's goalkeeper managed to bat the ball back on the field. The referee ruled no goal, and the North Koreans did not protest.
