Revealed: United face 68 games to land a famous five while Euro rivals take a breather
Manchester United are in danger of running out of steam as the season reaches its climax.
The English, European and world champions have played more games than any of their domestic and Champions League rivals.
They have already played 51 matches - 12 matches more than Champions League quarter-final rivals FC Porto.
Despite United's recent blip most observers agree United have the strongest squad, if not team, in England.
But a season that has included the Club World Cup in Japan seems to be taking its toll which is not surprising given the demands on Sir Alex Ferguson's players.
Of the non-English teams only Barcelona are still in their domestic cup while Bayern Munich have had the benefit of a winter break.
If United reach the finals of the FA Cup and Champions League it would be impossible for any side to play more matches than the Reds - 68.
As the Barclays Premier League and Champions League reach their climax Liverpool are probably not too unhappy they were knocked out of the FA Cup.
They are now breathing down United's necks and Ferguson cannot tinker with the team too much as there is little room for error.
