

Trinidad beats Canada, Costa Rica tops Mexico in Group B openers at CONCACAF Under-20 Championship

3/7/2009 - MACOYA, Trinidad – Sean De Silva scored from a free kick in the 81st minute, giving Trinidad & Tobago a 1-0 victory over Canada on Saturday and share of the Group B lead at the CONCACAF Under-20 Championship.
The victory put Trinidad atop its group with Costa Rica, which beat Mexico 1-0 in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader.
Trinidad will face Costa Rica on Monday, when Mexico will play Canada. The Soca Warriors are seeking their second trip to the U-20 World Cup and first since 1990.
Josue Martinez scored the goal that gave Costa Rica its victory over Mexico, which is playing less than a month after Juan Carlos Chavez replaced Jesus “Chucho” Ramirez as coach.
The top two teams will advance to the semifinals and earn berths in the U-20 World Cup in Egypt September 24-October 16.
