Hortical, why would this not be practical? I agree it is drastic, but in the long run, it would be better for the players in the long run. Any labor agreement with unions can be changed and I would guarantee that the players association past players would have millions of case studies that would prove (e.g. John Barnes) that putting money away is a good idea. Also, it is not communistic if it is a condition of employment; no one is forcing anyone to play professional sport. The form and method of compensation between two parties is between them alone - in the olden days, pensions were standard fare.
