Champions Barbican have a two-goal deficit to overturn against arch-rivals and former back-to-back winners Portmore Strikers when they meet in the decisive leg of their Sherwin Williams Women's Premier League semi-final at Barbican playing field today at 3:00 pm.
In the first encounter, Portmore defeated their opponents 3-1 at the Prison Oval on Wednesday and are firmly in the driver's seat.
The other semi-final should be a mere formality for Harbour View who take a 10-0 advantage into their match against Waterhouse at Drewsland.
In the 'A' League semi-finals, Arnett and Olympic Gardens look set to advance after victories against Meadhaven and Trelawny Women, respectively.
On Sunday, Arnett take a 2-0 lead into their second-leg against Meadhaven at Duhaney Park, while Olympic, who drubbed Trelawny Women 5-1 in their first leg semi-final game, travel to Elliston Wakeland for a mop-up job.
Last season, Portmore Strikers took a 3-1 lead into their first-leg semi-final against Harbour View, but ended up losing 5-4 on aggregate. Coach Cornell Clarke has striking memories of that agonising defeat and will not be taking any chances.
"We want to take this as a separate game, because we want to win this leg as well. We remembered what happened to us in the semi-finals last year and we don't want to make the same mistakes," he said.
Barbican's Charles Edwards said bearing the title defending champions is meaningless and noted that his team will have to go out there this afternoon and do what must be done if they hope to keep their title.
"We will have to play hard. We are at home and we will have to make the most of it, but they beat us at home already this season so if we are to come back we will have to go all out," he said.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has."
