FORMER Reggae Boy Marco McDonald was yesterday released from hospital, five days after undergoing surgery for a broken bone in his neck which he sustained in a motor cycle accident last Monday at the intersection of Half-Way-Tree and Oxford roads.
"It nice to be back. I'm now moving up and down, not active like how I used to be, but I'm active," an elated McDonald told the Observer yesterday.
"I just have to say thank God because it could have been worse and I'm just looking to get back on track (playing football)," added the Waterhouse defender who represented the national senior team between 1998 and 2003.
Waterhouse's director of medical operations, Dr Ricketts, told the Observer McDonald's prognosis is good following last Thursday's surgery.
"It was a very involved procedure, the details of which it may be wise not to divulge at this time. He had two plates placed in his neck and he now does not even so much as require the use of a brace," Dr Ricketts said.
"He has all function, motor and sensation and the word from the doctors is that he will play football again. Exactly when that is, we have to keep you posted, but the club is deeply grateful to the Almighty and we're very happy he is out of hospital and we're looking and moving from strength to strength," Ricketts added.
Meanwhile, McDonald told the Observer he has a new perspective on life following the accident.
"It's like nothing (happened) because I'm moving the same, my neck is active... so it's just to go through the therapy procedures now and getting back to playing," the veteran defender said, noting that he's unsure how long he will be out of action.
"The only conversation I had with the surgeon is that I'll be back pretty soon and he said he won't discuss further details with me. He discussed everything with the team doctor, so I just leave it at that," said the 31-year-old player.
