Reading releases Bobby Convey
READING, England (AP)—Bobby Convey was released Friday by Reading after failing to regain a place in the Royals’ starting lineup.
The 25-year-old American midfielder joined the club from D.C. United in July 2004 and two years later was among the few U.S. players who impressed at the World Cup.
Sidelined for most of the 2006-07 season after knee operations, Convey failed to recapture his best form and didn’t make an appearance for Reading in League Championship play this season. He scored seven goals in 103 league and cup appearances for the club.
“Things haven’t worked out for Bobby recently, but he will always have a place in the club’s history,” Royals director of football Nick Hammond said. “We wish him all the best for his future career.”
