U-20s to play six games ahead of Final Round

    Sunday, January 25, 2009

Jamaica's young Reggae Boyz will enter the CONCACAF Men's Under-20 Championship in Trinidad & Tobago in March well prepared, after president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Captain Horace Burrell, yesterday confirmed a series of six international friendlies.

    Complete Story ...

The president of the JFF is wondering where the VITAL fundings will come from for the CONFIRMED friendly games.
It is your job to solve that fast Burrell, the much needed preparation is worth it.

Games against Costa Rica, Mexico and Canada. I don't think that you can ask for any more than this for the preparation. If this series of games is completed then there should be no excuses from the coaches.

This is the kinds of action we should be expecting from the federation to get a team prepared for competition.

      Good luck to them.

Hectic practice game schedule for U-20s

Hectic practice game schedule for U-20s

        Published: Monday | January 26, 2009

Jamaica's Under-20 team will have an action-packed February as the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) provides opportunities for them to improve their readiness for the CONCACAF Under-20 World Cup Qualifying Final Round in Trinidad and Tobago from March 6-15, 2009.

To sharpen themselves for these challenges, the Jamaicans will be engaged in six international friendlies against their age group opposition from Costa Rica, Mexico and Canada.

The friendlies will begin against Costa Rica who arrive in the island on February 11 for games against the Young Boyz on February 12 and 14 in Kingston.

        Tough Mexicans
Three days later, they will host the historically tough Mexicans, who arrive in the island on February 16. Following their game on February 17, the Young Boyz depart for Mexico on February 18 for two games. On February 19 they play Mexico Under-20 before going up against a Mexican club team two days later.

After that dizzying schedule, the Young Boyz return home for further training before journeying to Fort Lauderdale on February 26 for a game against Canada the following day.

The Young Boyz have been drawn in Group A, alongside the United States, the team they oppose on the opening day of the competition; El Salvador and the winners of the play-off between Honduras and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Meanwhile, a squad of 30 players will return to camp today to continue their strengthening and tactical work.

        SQUAD
        Goalkeepers: Andre Blake (Clarendon College, Sporting Central Academy), Dennis Taylor (Reno FC), Gariece McPherson (Portmore United), Peter Harrison (Waterford High, Rodwood FC);

Defenders: Lynval Wilson (Reno FC), Andre Campbell (Portmore United), Andre Darby (Portmore United), Keithy Simpson (Sporting Central Academy), Leaunghn Williams (Lennon, Sporting Central Academy), Christopher Banner (Sporting Central Academy) Damaine Thompson (Rusea's High, Bamboo FC), Sean Fogah (Garvey Maceo, Portmore United).

there is only one big concern and that is, can we manage all these practice games and the qualifiers without hurting the team especially at this late stage? Kwowing that our team is not a very physically strong one.

Excellent point !! I am wondering with all the weight training, the travel invloved, etc this seems to be quite a lot in a short period of time. Are we running the risk of injuries and fatigue when we get to Trinidad ?

it also seems that they have games on consecutive days!!! dem gone from no practice games to practice game overload.

They should be fine! The games by themselves should be 'buttah!
The only problem would be amount of work and rest the technical staff allows as they go along.

If managed well they should turn up in T'dad in the best shape of their young lives!

Remember these type games are in real sense 'training sessions'...times to engage in repetitive pre-planned 'dead-ball situations' (for example, attacking and defending free-kicks in and around the penalty-area, attacking and defending at corner-kicks, etc...throw-in tactics, live situations 3 on 2, 2 on 3, etc., etc.)...TEAM attack, TEAM defense...
possible at just a tad more intensity than training sessions among selves.

...just preparations within atmosphere of 'challenging' the player...the players...the TEAM! Good for these U-20!

As far as I can remember our past U-20 have never been as fortunate as these lads!

Karl these are no normal practice games and the fact is the kids were just lifting weights and these kids are not use to playing the games so close. If the coach was complaining about the games in St.Vincent recently and said the kids were not physically ready then there is no concern for them in the next month?

                    What makes them abnormal?
The fact that we are getting good practise games?

...and the fact is the kids were just lifting weights and these kids are not use to playing the games so close.
I hope they are still lifting weights! ...that the weight training is woven into normal training!

                    Playing games close together?
Aren't they practising playing games close together? practising for the close games they must play at the upcoming CONCACAF Championship-FIFA Qualifying tournament?

...and if they advance at those FIFA U-20 Finals they games will come at them thick and fast!

Good going by Captian Burrell! May the good Captain find higher and higher quality matches that come thick and fast for all our national TEAMs!

FORWARD to how the best TEAMs in the world have to play at these tournaments...and the best players ply their trade in the best leagues!

May we always prepare as do the best TEAMs in the world!
...as do the youngsters of Argentina, Ghana, Nigeria, Brazil, USA, Portugal, Spain and the other TOP WORLD FOOTBALL NATIONS - FORWARD to the TOP OF THE WORLD!

.....coach was complaining about the games in St.Vincent recently and said the kids were not physically ready then there is no concern for them in the next month?
Well this should be getting them ready! The coach must learn how to articulate and teach the players how to manager themselves during play! How to use and deal with physical reserves!
                    FORWARD!

sometimes mi wonder if you ever play football.
Not because Burrell get the game don't mean overprepartion or fatigue can't be a problem.

the kids are simple not use to so many games in such a short time and it may affect them, hopefully it doesn't

Agree with you ... its not like the tournament is in April !

this is like cramming for a FINAL exam after wasting the entire semester. Trying to get it all done in short period of time.

Could you list the games played in the last 12 months? ...last 6 months? ...last 3 months?

Well...? Where would the 'over-preparation' arise?

Each game is a practise session!
It is being mentally able to put the idea of each (game) being some 'something tiring event' that the management staff must address in each player.

Get them to believe each game is nothing more than another afternoon of hard training...and having adequate recovery time before the tournament begins is key!

Recovery time - 5 days! ...during which light training (mix of low intensity...prolonged...some days, high intensity short period some days, possible one day off is done...kids ready to put in optimum efforts throught out tournament!

It is all a matter of the staff knowing how to get the players to peak...and knowing how to have the players maintain that 'peak' for a prolonged period!

Just as Glen Mills got Usain Bolt to attain peak fitness...play readiness...and to maintain same over a prolonged period of months! ...Arsenal, ManU, Liverpool and other coaches keep their players 'readi ova lang peri-ad den'[!

overpreparation in the next month by playing 6 practice games.
players have no time to recover from small injuries and get proper rest.
Especially the fact that they are not used to so many games.
