That depends. It is not like it is an exact science.

Let me clarify - in my limited knowledge of strength training, one can do it almost at any time, but if you only started a 6 weeks before the competition you're training for, not sure if it's going to do much good.

I can tell you as fact that 6 weeks before is in a real sense looking for trouble!

Inflamation of muscles...muscle strain (with not enough time to fully heal)...etc! A gamble as if the FIFA tournament...and doing well there...is the aim then getting the players as fit as possible must be done!

Hey!...the FIFA finals is in September. Right?

...and the player was doing that exercise wrong...it should be done thumb-less to give more resistance to the back muscles that the exercise is intended to do...makes me wonder how good this trainer is?

Maybe they were just posing for the camera, but even so...

I know the trainer has an American accent which might be the reason he is in the set-up, we seem to like foreign accents.

First time I heard the term 'core strength' was while I was discussing the failures of Germaine Gonzales with Glen Mills last year. Mills told me then that unless the runner improved his core strength dramatically he will continue to get poor results on the track

In swimming we would swim several miles in jeans and long sleeved shirts and even sweat suits then later we would train in up to four or five trunks or some would have the trunks with the pockets that act as small parachutes...or we would buy lengths of rubber hose which we would attach to a belt around our waist and use that as resistance training
