The Young Reggae Boyz will waste little time in continuing their readiness for the CONCACAF U-20 World Cup Qualifying Final Round set for Trinidad and Tobago from March 6-15, 2009.
They will return to camp on Monday January 19 for strength training. Following their return to the island on Wednesday where they topped their group with seven points, to seal their spot to the twin-island Republic. The Young Boyz find themselves drawn in Group A alongside the United States, El Salvador and the winners of the playoff between Honduras and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Included in the squad are nine players who did not travel to St Vincent and the Grenadines. Among them are forwards Andre Clennon of Waterhouse, Shavon Brown of Glenmuir and Portmore United and Roy Forbes of Arnett Gardens who sustained an injury at the last camp. Midfielders Keniel Hyde of Meadhaven, John-Ross Doyley of Glenmuir and Portmore United, Romeo Parkes of St Georges who is returning from an injury; defenders Damaine Thompson of Ruseas and Bamboo FC in Hanover, Sean Fogah of Garvey Maceo and Portmore United and goalkeeper Gariece McPherson complete the squad.
Jamaica, which qualified for the 2001 Under-20 World Cup in Argentina, will be gunning for a top two finish from their group to join the top two teams from Group B which is comprised of Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada and the hosts Trinidad and Tobago. This top two finish would book a place in the Under-20 World Cup in Egypt as the semi-finalists automatically qualify for the World Cup.
Eleven spots have so far been filled for Egypt 2009, including one by host Egypt. From Europe- Germany, England, Spain, Hungary, Italy, Czech Republic have already booked their spots while Australia, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan and Korea Republic have done so from Asia.
