  • Best TEAM!

    I'll ask it again - If you try the same thing over and over and it turns out failure...then...?

    Why are so many afraid of allowing our coaches to use what he believes to be 'best team'? How does that fear fit/sit with the thought of choosing someone to select and coach TEAM?

    ...some give voice to...come out "straight up" and stake out a position that in reality says two things -
    1. No confidence in the talent and ability of our local coaches and players;

    2. Firm belief that locals cannot outperform overseas talent.

    One would have thought that after all the years of our history they would know that all we need is to be challenged and we rise...and or the exploits of Coaches in Track and Field and althletes such as -

    Our Men
    Wint,
    McKenley,
    the 1952 - World Record and Olympic Champion 4 x 440 yards TEAM,
    Geroge Kerr - Olympic Record,
    Dennis Johnson - World Record at 100 yards,
    "Billy" Miller,
    Michael Fray,
    Seymour Newman,
    the 1968 Olympic World Record 4 x 100M team,
    Donald Quarrie,
    Bert Cameron,
    Gregory Haughton,
    Asafa Powell,
    Usain Bolt - Olympic and World records,
    the 2008 Olympic Champions and World Record holders - 4 x 100M TEAM,

    Our Women
    Merlene Ottey,
    Grace Jackson,
    Juliet Cuthbert,
    Deon Hemmings - Olympic Record
    Lorraine Graham-Fenton,
    Veronica Campbell-Brown,
    the 2004 Olympic 4 x 100M Women Champions
    Shelly-Ann Fraser,
    Melaine Walker - Olympic Record holder
    Sherone Simpson,
    Keron Stewart,
    Shericka Williams...

    ...and the many others of our men and women who put out top world performances over the years.

    ...and we have had our World beaters in other sports - e.g. cricket: George "Atlas" Headley, Alfred Valentine, Gordon O'niel Smith aka "Collie" Smith, Franz Alexander (World' best wicketkeeper), Jackie Hendricks - rated TOP OF THE WORLD as wicketkeeper, Lawrence "Yagga" Rowe, Michael Holding, Jeffery Dujon (wicketkeeper-batsman), Courtney Walsh...and others;

    football: Lindy Delaphena, John Barnes, Ricardo Gardner, Theodore "Tappa" Whitmore...and others;

    boxing: Mike McCallum and others;

    our netball teams...

    An unending stream of talent that shall throw up some players who will move to the highest of heights shall keep coming along! We are Jamaicans "the football" shall become better streamlined and professionalism at all levels shall be embraced The levels of skills and level of play shall climb towards the stars. Do not stultify and stifle the growth by settling for less than our best available in our national teams.

    There should be no fear that locals will not rise to the top! They shall. It takes time! That increased levels of play shall rise at a more rapid pace when the challenges are difficult...the levels of play to be surpassed is high than when the level of play to surpass is mediocre or worse!
