Gunners chief Arsene Wenger has been tracking the 24-year-old for over 12 months and has regularly dispatched his French-based spy Gilles Grimandi to keep tabs on his progress.
Pele has seemingly done enough to convince Wenger, although the French tactician is not looking to seal an immediate deal - he merely wants to secure his services, with a view to moving either this summer or next.
Pele, who iscurrently recovering from a broken foot, only signed a new contract at the Leon Bollee in the summerwhich tied him to the club until 2008 - but Le Mans are well aware of Arsenal's interest and realise a deal is in the offing.
Former coach Daniel Jeandupex, who is now the right-hand man of president Henri Legarda, confirmed Arsenal are still interested and they are very much at the front of the queue for Pele's services.
"We know Arsenal is still attracted but they have not sent any formal offer yet," said Jeandupex.
"Other European sides are also following him but it is not the same story.
"Anyway it is out of the question to talk about a transfer before the end of the season."
Meanwhile, Le Mans are also bracing themselves for a bid for their Ivorian ace Ndri Romaric.
Paris Saint Germain and Monaco are both keen on the 23-year-old - who has impressed this season. </DIV>
