PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC):
Twenty-two Caribbean nations and five guest countries will vie for the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-16 Youth Cup that opens today.
The tournament, which runs from August 14-26, will also double as the Caribbean Preliminary Qualification to the CONCACAF Under-17 Final with the group games due to take place in April 2007.
The guest teams are defending champions Canada, last year's losing finalists Guatemala, El Salvador, Mexico and Panama.
Seven groups comprising four teams each, will contest the preliminary round with the host nation fielding two squads.
Group games will be played in Bacolet, Couva, Malabar, Marabella and Pointe-a-Pierre, while the final will be played in Port-of-Spain.
Group winners and the best second-placed team qualify for the quarter-finals.
