Special delivery: Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho gives the orders
European champions Manchester United and rivals Liverpool have been handed mouth-watering ties against Inter Milan and Real Madrid in the Champions League
last 16 today.
The draw pits United against Jose Mourinho's Italian giants Inter while
Liverpool will take on nine-times winners Real, a club repeatedly linked with Reds' boss Rafael Benitez.
Chelsea also face an intriguing reunion with former manager Claudio Ranieri after being paired with Juventus, while Arsenal take on Roma.
Bruno Conti, a World Cup winner with Italy, made the draw at the House of European Football in Nyon.
Guess who the delegates from Manchester United were sitting next to? Real Madrid. Someone at UEFA has a sense of humour.
It's like the bit on the Antiques Roadshow at the moment as the representatives of Europe's finest football clubs endure an opening speech before finding out how much their stock is worth.
The pairings will be determined by drawing the runners-up first and then picking from one of the eligible group winners. The runner-up will play the first leg at home.
The draw....
CHELSEA v Juventus
The very first name in the draw and a meeting with former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri for Scolari's men. They've escaped Mourinho for the moment, but have a date with 'The Tinkerman'.
Real Madrid v LIVERPOOL
The way the draw worked out, Madrid could only have drawn an English club, but they escaped United and will play five-time European champions, Liverpool.
A return to his home town for Rafa Benitez and a chance for former Spurs manager Juande Ramos to answer his English critics.
ARSENAL v Roma
Chelsea struggling against Roma, who will be aiming to make the final in their home stadium, but the Gunners will be pleased to have avoided Barcelona in the first knock-out stage.
Inter Milan v MANCHESTER UNITED
Fergie vs Jose. Will the red wine be flowing after this feisty encounter? Mourinho said he wanted Man Utd and his wish was granted, but will his table-topping Serie A side be good enough to topple the reigning European Champions?
And here' the rest....
Lyon v Barcelona
Villarreal v Panathinaikos
Sporting Lisbon v Bayern Munich
Atletico Madrid v Porto
Old foes: Jose Mourinho (right) and Sir Alex Ferguson shake hands before Chelsea v Manchester United in 2005
More...
