The only difference I would say between the 2 philosophies is that Rafa play's a target man as opposed to John's 2 forwards.
The similarities are as follows....
2 holding midfield players, Morrison and Austin. In Liverpool's case their are Alonso and Mascherano.
2 wide men workhorses who defend and attack consistently all day, Philllips and Vernan mirroring Riera and Kuyt.
An integral player in the hole that in the the reggae boys case sits behind the 2 forwards as opposed to in Liverpool's system 1 attacker...In the just concluded cup that would have been Andy Williams. Liverpool has the consummate professional in Steven Gerrard(I think K Daley is the future for JA in this position, Andy will have to make way pretty soon)
As I stated before Jamaica played with 2 front men, Shelton and Richards. Liverpool plays with Torres up front when fit hence the extra defender in their starting team. The theory in Jamaica's case is that the holding players lend immensely to the teams defensive capabilities leaving the wing players to a certain extent plus the 3 frontmen to produce the necessary attacking impetus.
Liverpool does the same with an extra man round back and Kuyt, Riera and Gerrard supporting Torres. Not a bad system in my estimation, let's stop all this Jerry talk because the man that is really missing in this squad is really Kemar Daley....Let's see what happens in the Gold cup.
