Whitmore (64th), Geddes (75th)<P class=StoryText align=justify>MONTEGO BAY - Seba's coach Geoffrey Maxwell was left almost speechless as he watched his team gave up a 2-1 lead to eventually lose 3-2 to Reno in their Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) fixture at Jarrett Park on Sunday night.

Veteran striker Kirk Wright scored once in each half to lead Reno to a pulsating win and overshadowed an outstanding performance by the former national captain Theodore 'Tappa' Whitmore.

Ricardo Scott kept up his impressive scoring rate off the bench while Whitmore and Ricardo Geddes scored for Seba.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Maxwell, the itinerant coach, could only shake his head in disappointment and even managed a laugh as he gave post match comments.

"There is nothing I can say," Maxwell told the Observer, "I can only laugh."<P class=StoryText align=justify>But he could only find words of praise for former Reggae Boy Whitmore, whose crowning moment in football came when he scored two goals for Jamaica in a 2-1 win over Japan in the France '98 World Cup Finals.<P class=StoryText align=justify>"Tappa did well. In the second half he played much better than the first half. Otherwise from that I don't know what to tell you, I can't blame lack of team speed, just head space," Maxwell lamented.<P class=StoryText align=justify>Wendell Downswell, former national head coach, was upbeat with the way in which his Reno team played. "It was a classy match up... the game was played in true spirit (of competition)," he said.

Downswell attributed his team's performance to a positive week of training leading up to the western match-up.

Reno looked the better team through out the game, getting to the ball quicker and were more patient in their build-up. Seba, on the other hand, could have been affected by the number of changes to the usual starting side.

Seba's woes worsened when former Portmore United striker Andrew Morrison had to be taken off in the 18th minute after he sustained a gash to his face. He returned to the field of play after the bleeding stopped, but was ordered off by Dr Garfield Campbell.

Wright gave Reno the lead in the 26th minute when his delicate flashing header from a corner beat goalkeeper
Loxley Reid who was making his first start for Seba this season.

Led by Whitmore's deft dribbling and pinpoint passing, Seba stormed back in the second half to take control of the game. Whitmore levelled the score when he rifled home after a quick, short pass from Iton Scott.

Geddes, who had replaced Norman Woolery at the start of the second half, gave the home team the lead in the 75th when his long-range shot curled past Duwayne Kerr.

But Reno hit back with two goals within a two minute span to snatch all three points.

Omar Johnson raced away from Geddes down the right flank to square into the Seba penalty box where Scott headed past Reid for the equaliser in the 83rd minute. Two minutes later Wright got his second of the match when he tapped into a open goal as the Seba defence appeared caught off guard.
In the Under -21 match, Seba won 2-1.<P class=StoryText align=justify>[B]Seba United - Seian McNish, Keneil Moodie, Theodore Whitmore, Norman Woolery (Ricardo Geddes 46th), Damion Williams, Kemar James, Floyd Scott, Loxley Reid, Iton Scott, Glenroy Miller (Norman Foster 54th), Andrew Morrison (Wilfred Smith 18th)

    mmmm???

Coach Maxwell and Mr. Paul Reid giving words of praise?

The old man appears to still have some life in those well travelled legs? Right?

I dont agree, he still sleeps out too much time, after his burst midway the second half, he was practically non existent after that and walked the rest of the way.

I doubt it he could run 30 minutes in an international game these days.

Settle down, Karl. You apparently don't listen or read! I've long said that. But Tappa must play second fiddle to the Great Maestro, and should have been doing so at least 5 years ago!

Certainly you are not saying if he played well I would not be objective enough to give him his props?

Funny I see people here raving over Santa Claude's performance on Saturday whilke ignoring that it came against a poor Newcastle team that their fans arebellowing for the removal of the coach, I gues they did not see SkySports news last night or read BBC.com or they chose to ignore them.

Interesting that Claude's two best performances came against poor teams, New Castle and Man City.

True, Sickko, but they are Premiership teams, nonetheless. If he was doing well at the Championship level it would still be nothing to sneeze at. Not saying we should break out the champagne, but let's temper any negatives right now. I am willing to forgive his "dun rich arready" statement.

Still believe he has a lot to offer internationally versus teams likeMontserrat &amp; Cayman Islands.

It wasn't age that did Whitmore in. His style of play was never about being physical or having young legs the man was just born with moves that could never be taught because it can't be explained. He is one of those players who could play well into their thirties because they rely less on their physical attributes.

Whitmorelost the plot playing for Jamaica for instance in aGold cup game against Guatemala in 2003 he was involved in almost a minute ofconsecutive passes for Jamaica he pushed the ball neatly sideways or backwards to his fellow midfielders and defenders and then ran to them calling back for the ball - they gave the ball to him and he continued doing this without once looking where Nandi or the other forward (Byfield) was - they were by the way standing up waiting waiting... Whitmore then pushed the ball to the left to Bibi and ran back toward Bibi calling for the ball... luckily Bibi ignored him looked up once and chipped asweet throughball to Lowe who just ran onto it and blasted one of the most hellish one time shots ever hit - into the Guatemalan goal. Jamaica 1 - Guatemala nil. ASSIST BIBIand in other newsAward for most straight sideways and backways passes went to Whitmore.

There were things that he was not doingwaaaay before people started calling him tiyad legs...

Any positive news or good performance is reason to celebrate. Plus from what I heard he played well against Chelsea and Drogba.

Siya (11/7/2006)It wasn't age that did Whitmore in. He is one of those players who could play well into their thirties because they rely less on their physical attributes.

...and, I am not for one moment trusting your memory...but, suppose that you were correct -

Did Whitmore contribute to retention of possession...denying the opposition the ball?

Would the multiple passes Whitmore interchanged/engaged in with his fellow TEAMmates cause the opposition players to be pulled out of position opening the way for Bibi's great pass...and, Lowe's final touch into goal?

The aim of the game is to score more goals than your opponents. There are ways to achieve that. It includes - limiting the number of passes your opponents make &amp; one way of doing that is to increase the playing time that your TEAM has the ball - increase possession.

There was a time when the coaches were in a mind-set that considered passing the ball any other way but forwardgot the players the label 'fool'. The coaches have come awake and have come to realise that using the entire length and breath of the field to keep the ball away from the opponent is very often the best way of keeping the opponent's attempts on goal to a minimum.

Coaches are now intolerant of players who repeatedly lose the ball...or, even those players who 'give the ball away'. Players who have the skill to keep the ball with...aid possession of TEAMmates are valuable. Players who constantly push forward when to do so is silly...not in the best interest of TEAM...are given short thrift...are fired...dropped!

Many are the fans who have not yet realised that possession is vital! Many are those fans who believe in going forward even if it isfolly to so do.

Yes...Bibi saw an opening and took it...that is key! Openings usually appear after some time 'in possession'....the key is having that possession...majority possessionby one's TEAM.
