  • JFF blunders

They are going to lose their shirts on this DCC tournament unless the sponsors and CFU are taking the larger portions of the costs.

I cant see more than 5,000 paying spectators tops for the Reggae Boyz games and it will be emabrrassing at the 'other games', who will be interested to pay to go see Cuba vs Antigua?

To compound the foolishnessn the JFF has banned all football games in the island for the duration including forcing ISSA to push back the DCup finals to Dec 13th so the teams will ha e a two weeks break from yesterday's semi-finals.

Absolute rubbish..I cant see any of the fans of either St James High or Spalding having a serious decision to make between going to watch the DCup finals and the double header at Trelawny Stadium.

Time Burrell realise he cant force things down people's throats, this is not the army boss, this is real life where people are allowed to make choices on their own.

Agreed. This two week break is ridiculous.
Sickko, what was the story with the equipment manager?

the first thing is the JFF couldn't be serious to think that the Digicel cup will make profit. Digicel must be paying for it all to push their brand.

The people of Western Jamaica can't have it both ways, they complain about not have any international games yet I bet not even 1000 people will show up at some of these matches to support. Everybody say use the Trelawny stadium, now it is been used let us see how many people a go show up.

Another example of people who don't understand business.

Yes, for some of the games there will be very little interest. But the JFF must build interest in the national team. To build interest for the long term, hosting the tournament is a good long term investment.

Also, at the time of the decision to host the tournament they were hoping that the Reggaeboyz would still be in World Cup qualification so it would be further development. Now that we are out it is still good development for the many players for the tournament.

Also, if the games go off well, it will bring interst in hosting other international games. There will be wide broadcast of the games outside of Jamaica.

One of the big problems in Jamaica is that people still think that DeCosta cup and Manning Cup are the most important competitions. This goes from the fans to coaches. This kind of attitue must change for the national teams (youth and senior) along with NPL to further develop a fan base whihc is greatly needed.

        Respect.

The JFF needs to understand and try to capture the enthusiasm of the schoolboys football and work with it not try to alienate it-- first thing.

I am willing to bet no one else wanted the DCC tournament and we got stuck with it, I am going to agree with you that the JFF wa shopinbg we would still be in contention in the WC but I am also sure they never thought about the long term when they took this.

The big difference here with us Assassin is that you are guessing and I know.

Equipment manager? Stone is still a part of football as far as I know, I guess you are talking about the trainer Junior Samuels or whoever he really is.

No clue, he was due to go back to court on Friday in Kingston, have not heard anythiong about it since.

Saw it on the tv sports news the other day. Not Junior Samuels, the short breddah whose name I don't know. He might be Stone. He was dismisssed unfairly, he says, and wants justice.

Sammy should have been sentenced on Friday, but...

could be right but I have never known Digicel to make a profit, not in Trinidad or Jamaica.

I lived in Mobay and is yet to see a big crowd for a national or regional game in Mobay. There was always more support for Cornwall College or a Seba/Wadadah game

All well and good to build interest in the national team, but how is the daCosta Cup final going to impact that on a day when Cuba and Antigua are playing?!?!

Plus there is a small matter called exams that the players should be involved in around that time.

And trust me, no one can tell the fans which football is important to them. There is a little thing called marketing.

Sorry, I did not know about Stone's position being in jeopardy..I did see some headline about jobs being in peril but did not see his name.

No idea, I should make some calls but it seems strange that he should be let go on the eve of a tournament at home, who will deal with the equipment now?

Maybe one of the many managers will have to roll up his sleeves and take over the job...Vin maybe?

I am joking but it would be a backward step if he was let go.

Play both games, one is in Montego Bay and the other in Falmouth and won't take away from spectators from either one..it is time we recognised the demograpghics in our sports.

There are people who go to every game that George's play no matter where it is played but wont go to any Premier league or national game..fact.

If say Munro, JC, Cornwall or KC got to a final, especially the Olivier Shield there are past students who will fly form England just to watch it but if the Reggae Boyz are on the verge of WC qualification, they will watch it on TV or read about but wont make an extra effort to go.

The CFU Championship has never been profitable since its inception. I wonder if Siccko and those who knock the competition are suggesting that the competition be scrapped?
