Consternation and disquiet rule the Reggae Boyz domain just over 24 hours before one the team’s most important games. Rumblings have began to get louder as the question persist about who is in charge of the team as they prepare to meet Canada in a must-win game at the National Stadium.
Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore, who was handed the reins by the JFF for this game after producing positive results against Mexico and Honduras, was observed standing on the sidelines as new coach John Barnes talked the players to death.
One player told JamaicaWIN.com bluntly, “this man can’t coach. He had us standing there talking about positioning for more than 45 minutes. Who is he working with? Kids?”
Another player, after hissing his teeth said, “Captain better sort this thing out now!”
Reports are that Barnes, who assumed the role as national coach of Jamaica on November 1, went back on his words to allow Tappa the opportunity to take control of this crucial game. The former Liverpool and England star spoke with the players for 15 minutes on their arrival at 6:50pm and then had them standing around while he explained the entire movements which he ‘wanted’ to see during Wednesday’s game. By the time the players got around to doing anything physical at 7:40pm, they, as well as the surroundings, were as cold as the North Pole. The players looked perplexed, as they had expected Whitmore to be in charge. There was little or no emotion or excitement as they went through their paces. The fans and the media had more questions than answers.
Ironically, Barnes had expressed pessimism about the prospects of the Reggae Boyz on Liverpool’s website in September, before the big results against Mexico and Honduras.

JamaicaWIN.com understands that the President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Captain Horace Burrell, will meet with Barnes today to calm what could conspire to derail Jamaica’s chances of advancing to the next round of CONCACAF qualification which begins next March.
Barnes replaced Rene Simoes who was fired in September. Simoes was brought in to replace Serb, Bora Milutinovic, who was fired by Burrell last December.
