Who will qualify from Group 2?

    (FIFA.com) Tuesday 11 November 2008

When the third round groups of North, Central America and Caribbean qualifying for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa™ were announced, the general feeling was that Group 2, featuring four teams who had qualified for the big event in the past, would be the most intriguing. And so it has proved.

The question is, with the final matchday approaching: which two teams will advance from the section?

    Group 2 standings
    Mexico - 10 points, +4 GD
    Honduras - 9 points, +3 GD
    Jamaica - 7 points, -3 GD
    Canada - 2 points, -4 GD

    Remaining fixtures
    19 November
    Honduras-Mexico
    Jamaica-Canada

Mexico got off to a flying start, but have been pegged back by some surprise setbacks on the road: a 1-0 loss to Jamaica in Kingston, followed by a 2-2 draw with Canada in wintry conditions in Edmonton. They are not yet assured of progression, but it will take an improbable combination of results for them to be eliminated.

The real struggle is for the second qualifying berth. After a slow start, Jamaica have fought their way back to seven points, and who would bet against them at 'The Office' in Kingston in their final match against eliminated Canada?

Standing in their way are Honduras, two points ahead of the Jamaicans going into the final day. A draw at home to Mexico would probably be enough for Los Catrachos, given their +3 goal difference. But who can ever count on a result against El Tri?

So, it's over to you: which two teams will reach the hexagonal from Group 2?

    -----------

Thought I had put this up before ...but I cannot find it?

    Comments from around the world!

Let's just remember that Mexico had a hard time at the Azteca Stadium playing against Honduras. They are not at their best right now, matter of fact I just watch the game against Ecuador the other day, and while they were in control of the ball, they came from behind to tie the game in the second half. Honduras will at the very least get a tie at home. As for Saprissa's comment I agree with Killa786 response.

Honduras will win! Jamaica will win. But its not going to be enough!

Posted by resyos, Italy on 14/11/2008 at 16:21
No disrespect intended to anyone but the mathematical equations for this is very simple. I have read so many write how Jamaica have to score lots of goals to make it through...but in fact it is very simple. As long as Mexico wins and Jamica wins...Honduras is out! Jamaica will win that is a guarantee, if Mexico takes care of business as they should...it will be Jamaica and Mexico through to the next round! Go Reggae Boyz! It will be great Reggae Boyz and Soca Warriors in the Hex...and then on to Africa!!!!

I think because for one thing out of those teams they are the highest rank.

People, people, please, keep on being real by looking at the facts, why does everyone defending Honduras can only see the Mexico loosing scenario? why do they only talk about the at least 8 goals that would have to be score by Jamaica and Honduras combined to leave Mexico out?, how come no one has said anything about how Jamaica and Mexico would qualify by winning with 1 measly goal each?, come on people be realistic for a second there, what is more probable?...8 goals or just 2? Jamaica will win and so will Mexico, that is inevitable.

Mexico will be go to world cup 2010

Posted by gouw88, Indonesia on 14/11/2008 at 15:14
the first answer for almost everone is that Mexico will qualify and therefore leav out Honduras, but let's look at it like this... Mexico tends to play from bad to awful outside of Mexico (which is the reason that they have only made it to the quarter-finals of the World Cup twice- Mexico 70 and Mexico 86; Mexico also hasn't won any of the regional tournaments (lost the Gold Cup, 3rd in the Copa America, and in the U-20 level didnt even qualify to go to the Olympics, and therefore will also not be able to go to the Confederations Cup.

    jamaica and mexico will qualify

Posted by killa786, England on 14/11/2008 at 13:47
Saprissa9 says, "i want and i need mexico to win that game" ???? You're right! Because if Honduras goes to the Hex then Costa Rica's chance to go to the World Cup diminishes. Everyone knows USA and Mexico are going to be 1,2 or 2,1. That leaves position 3 to ....HONDURAS, and a 4th place Costa Rica can fight 5th place from COMEBOL for the final spot.

Well, Mexico is making it into the hexagonal...unless Honduras beats Mexico, and Jamaica earn a huge win against Canada. The odds are stacked against Honduras right now...a game against Mexico is never easy. Jamaica will be playing bottom and winless Canada. With 6 goals between Jamaica and Canada, Jamaica will have to need to score big, while Honduras might be satisfied with a reduced damage policy. Losing 1-0 to Mexico will probably keep Honduras in, unless Jamaica manages a 5 goal win.

For the World Cup 2010's colorful ,I think Mexico will win the South Africa'a ticket.

not even!!.. canada is eliminated but i know there are still gonna play with heart and dignity..!!! jamaica is not gonna win canada because jamaica barely beat honduras and mexico and they think they are the best now??... the game is gonna end up in a tie 1-1 mexico is gonna lose to honduras with out rambo de leon... mexico isnt good in away games.. its been 15 years since mexico beat honduras at home.. honduras 3 mexico 1 goal from david suazo carlos coslty and amado guevara

Posted by xkatracho, USA on 14/11/2008 at 05:01
Lets be honest. Mexico is struggling right now but Mexico has been the only team to represent concacaf around the world. Not until the U.S. hosted the cup in 94 and up until now it's only been Mexico. Whenever El Salavador or Honduras go they just make Concacaf look very bad. Sorry but other than Mexico and the U.S. the third team really just goes so they can sightsee.

Posted by jchavez14, USA on 14/11/2008 at 04:56
well if mexico loses...they might get eliminated because canada is already eliminated so they might not care if they let jamaica score on them enough to get mexico eliminated...so mexico better win or at least tie.

Posted by Jerry793, USA on 14/11/2008 at 04:50
its funny to see how everyone wants honduras out. why is that? its because Mexico and Jamaica fear Honduras in the final hexagonal thats why. Even Costa Rica fears Honduras, this is evident in Saprissa9's comment. Honduras is going to have everything in their favor, the crowd, homefield advantage, and the confidence to play at their best level. I'm not saying that it will be simple to beat Mexico, it never is because Mexico is a great team with great players, but I, as well as the rest of the Catrachos, BELIEVE in my country and we WILL take it all the way! Vamos HONDURAS!!

Posted by catrachosd1, USA on 14/11/2008 at 04:22
If Honduras lose and Jamaica win, Jamaica is in and Honduras is out. If Mexico lose, thats their only opportunity to get eliminated, but Jamaica would have to score like 6 goals. Thats why I expect a more conservative game than most are predicting. If Mexico or Honduras win, it will by the minimum difference, but I actually think they will play it conservative and I expect a 1-1 tie, even a 0-0. Neither team will play to win in my opinion, they will play not to lose, as a tie means that it is nearly impossible for both Mexico and Honduras to be eliminated. It will be a defensive game. I know some of you fans are probably thinking Im crazy, stating that Honduras and Mexico are rivals and will do anything to beat each other, but the fans don't run the teams, the coaches do. Expect Rueda and Eriksson to come out with defensive teams. For the sake of entertainment I hope Im wrong.

Posted by miggs08, USA on 14/11/2008 at 04:05
The "Garra Catracha" will rise and beat Mexico. Most likely it will be Honduras and Mexico due to the goal differential. Arriba Honduras!!

Posted by KatrachosXL, USA on 14/11/2008 at 03:51
Mexico will win the game against Honduras no matter how prepare the hondurans players are. Mexico will dominate the game since the first second to the last one. The only thing that Honduras will do on that game is to defend and pray that Mexico will have any sympathy for them and keep them to the next round. And I believe Mexico will do its job which is win that game and think the next round. Jamaica will outscore Canada...

Posted by jarochaphf, USA on 14/11/2008 at 03:50
I agree with most people here the game between Mexico and Honduras will be tough for both sides but in the end I believe it will be Mexico and Jamaica moving on to the Hexagonal.

Mexico will overcome Honduras and Jamaica will win at home. Mexico will qualify as the leader of Group 2 and I would love to see Jamaica go through to "The Hex" cause they sure deserve it!

Mexico and Honduaras will definitely make it.

Jamaica will win Canada at the Office for sure. Mexico should win Honduras even though Honduras will fight hard. Mexico and Jamaca should go to the next round.

guaradado and nery are going to lead mexico to a 2-0 win over honduras

I think Mexico needs to play their best game for this round against Honduras and not worry about what happens in the other game. Take care of business against Honduras and that''s all that matters. VAMOS MEXICO!!!

mexico does bad in away games.. they dont have a good functional squad yet... honduras is going 2 win 2-1 or 2-0 canada gonna lose or tie with jamaica 2-1 or 1-1 making honduras and mexico going 2 the hex group making honduras leader of group 2...

Posted by xkatracho, USA on 11/11/2008 at 22:35
Mexico is going to beat Honduras 3-0 and Jamaica will spank Canada 4-0. Honduras is to confident about playing home and Canada is a dead horse.

i think..wait nah i know mexico is guna win 3-1 again honduras but is guna b hard n a really gud soccer game make ur bets

Who knows what the CSA is thinking still hanging on the all time worst coach in the history of the world cup. Canada will not send their best team but they have nothing to lose and have more depth than people believe. They could upset or tie Jamaica at home. Mexico and Honduras to advance.

Posted by xxxricky, Canada on 11/11/2008 at 21:19
Crunch time fellows: okay here is my take on what''s going to happen! Mexico vs.Honduras I would go with mexico based on previous matches. Jamaica vs. Canada ...I wold go with Jamaica based on Jamaica history at "the office" in Kingston...so lets be logical. Mexico and Jamaica will advance. Mexico will beat Honduras 2-0 and Jamica Will beat Canada 3-1. this is the most logical answer to 11/19/08 match-ups

Posted by kirkjamz, USA on 11/11/2008 at 20:57
Hondras will get a tie against Mexico 1-1 and canadas offense will take Jamaica down on a 3-2 upset and even if Honduras loses by some great miracle at home Jamica has to beat Canada 6-0 next time regge boys!

Posted by valdimirCA, USA on 11/11/2008 at 20:31
HONDURAS will beat mexico 2-1..and canada will tie..Watch out for those jamaicans!!jaja HONDURAS AL MUNDIAL 2010!!

I have a feeling that mexico will struggle in honduras but will draw 2-2 or win 2-1. And that Jamaica will crush Canada. VIVA MEXICO

canada will be like snowmen in the middle of summer. jamaica is going to overwhelm them 5-0. sorry honduras a draw still seems unlikely when mexicos backs are against the wall they will be too much for you.

Posted by andhi83, Jamaica on 11/11/2008 at 16:49
I think that mexico will take the victory with honduras with a 2-1 and jamaica will bit canada with a 3-1 victory
