The Wisconsin state boys' high school soccer championship begins today with a rematch of last year's Division 1 championship. The tournament will be held at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee, up the street from my house.
At high noon, appropriately enough, Neenah and Milwaukee Marquette kick off the tournament. In the 2007 championship, Neenah won 3-2 in overtime after falling behind 2-0.
There are championships in three divisions based on size of enrollment: Division 1 for large schools, Division 2 for mid-sized schools, and Division 3 for small schools. Eight teams will compete in Division 1, and four each in Division 2 and Division 3.
In Division 2, a championship rematch between Waukesha Catholic Memorial and Green Bay Notre Dame is possible. Both teams compete in separate semifinals on Friday.
Division 2 and 3 semifinals will be held Friday afternoon. Division 1 semifinals will be Friday evening. All three championship matches will be played Saturday.
