As Hatchet Man remembers it, John Terry slipped over and missed the crucial penalty in the Champions League Final while Rio Ferdinand finished up cavorting around Moscow holding the trophy.
That happened a couple of weeks after Ferdinand was picking up a Barclays Premier League winners’ medal, while Terry’s Chelsea finished a couple of points behind Manchester United.
Terry also missed half the season through injuries while Ferdinand played 50 games in all competitions. So why did the Chelsea skipper get included in FIFA’s 23-man list of nominees for World Player of the Year while Ferdinand missed out?
In fact the Stamford Bridge side, who won not a single trophy in a season of turmoil, have got FIVE players in all on the FIFA list.
How did that happen? At least we know it couldn’t have had anything to do with the worldwide influence of billionaire Roman Abramovich’s money.
