Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed he is still interested in signing Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich, despite the fact that the midfielder is recovering from a broken leg. United made it clear they were interested in the 25-year-old England midfielder in the summer, but Bayern refused to sell. 'We are still interested in Hargreaves, but there's no update to give at the moment because we haven't spoken with Bayern again,' said Ferguson. United did sign a midfielder in the summer transfer window, Michael Carrick from Spurs for a fee of £18.6 million, but the United boss insisted that he was not a replacement for Hargreaves. 'If we had got Owen Hargreaves it would have given us a complete variation of the type of midfield players you need in the modern game,' he said. 'We focused on Michael Carrick and Owen right away (during the summer transfer window). We got one and didn't get the other.' The Munich midfielder is thought to still be interested in a move to Old Trafford, but Bayern have proved to be a tough obstacle to the potential move. They threatened to involve FIFA after repeatedly turning down interest from the English club and United were forced to admit defeat; although it is possible they may return in the January transfer window, once Hargreaves has recovered fully from a broken leg sustained earlier in the Bundesliga season. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></DIV>
