  • Boyz ready, Daley replaces Austin

Coach Theodore Whitmore would have been impressed with what he saw at the Stadium on Tuesday evening. The Reggae Boyz squad game was competitive and every player was out there to prove that they belong in the starting 11 for the all-important World Cup qualifying game against Honduras on Wednesday evening.

Midfielder Omar Daley, who was not even on the bench against Mexico did enough to impress, rifling a shot into the rat hole from just inside the box from an acute angle, to give what looked like the starting 11 a 1-0 win over the others. He looks like the man who Whitmore will use to replace the suspended Rudolph Austin, who, inexplicably, is still training with the team although he won’t be needed until November 19 against Canada.

Mexican captain, Rafael Marquez, is in a similar position and he was allowed to return to his club, arriving in Barcelona Monday morning and trained with his club on Tuesday.

Apart from Daley coming in for Austin, there were no other visible changes. Donovan Ricketts in goal, Tyrone Marshall sweeping, Ian Goodison at left defense, Claude Davis on the right, Oneil Thompson just infront of that pair, a four-man attacking midfield of Jamal Campbell-Ryce, Daley, Demar Phillips and captain Ricardo Gardner, with Ricardo Fuller and Luton Shelton up front.

Another player who was quite outstanding in training and could get a look in was Dane Richards. The New York Red Bull was nippy and elusive, adding life to the attack on every opportunity. He was denied by the post after cutting in from the left and spanking with the right with keeper Sean Sawyers stranded.

Overall, the team looks highly motivated. They obviously believe that the job is nowhere near done and want to go to the bitter end. A win validates the victory over Mexico, with any other result confirming the “flatter only to deceive” argument.

In the other gane in Group B, Mexico should confirm their final spot against an eliminated Canada which is now like a rudderless ship. Any other result from that game, coupled with a Reggae Boyz win puts a ‘real’ possibility within Jamaica’s grasp. November 19 would be really interesting.

The game start at 7:00pm Jamaica time, and JamaicaWin.com will have LIVE TEXT coverage.Click on the Honduras vs Jamaica button on home page to post your views about the starting line-up or just to wish the Boyz luck. You could also read what others have to say.

At a young age winning is not the most important thing... the important thing is to develop creative and skilled players with good confidence.

Any report on last night's training that fails to mention the brilliance of Maestro, to the point where spectators in the stands were calling for his immediate inclusion is not worth the piece of crap computer it was written on.

Was this from JamaicaWin.com? I will call Earl Bailey right now!

And it wasn't Shawn Sawyers who was on that side of the field. That was Dwayne Kerr. One wonders what else might evaded the writer.

Tappa has never been known by that name. Stop talk nonsense! As a matter of fact, that is what Tappa himself calls him!
