King
JAMAICAN international Marlon King will miss the country's crucial World Cup qualifiers against Mexico and Honduras after being ruled unfit to travel with a minor back injury.
Medical officials at King's Barclays Premier League (BPL) club Hull City are concerned that, despite the forward having played 80 minutes in Sunday's 1-0 win against Tottenham, a long flight of 10hrs and then back-to-back internationals would only aggravate the problem.
The prognosis has seen the club requesting that the Football Fed-eration (JFF) excuse the player from international duty.
Reservations
As early as last week, Hull manager, Phil Brown, had expressed reservations about the player being allowed to travel for the World Cup games.
"The medical team at his club believes that the 10-hour trip across the Atlantic will make the situation even worse and, therefore, has asked us to excuse him from international duty," JFF captain Horace Burrell told The Gleaner.
"We are, indeed, disappointed, but is about teamwork and the other members of the squad are capable and they are ready to fill the vacancy for that position," Burrell said.
"I spoke to the team, we have other players doing well in England and the United States and they have all given their full commitment, expressing full confidence in their ability to give a sterling performance against the Mexicans.
"I also spoke to Marlon. He is obviously disappointed, but sends his best wishes to the team and looks forward to rejoining the squad as soon as possible."
King, Jamaica's most consistent goalscorer in recent times, last featured for the national team in the first round of the World Cup qualifiers against the Bahamas.
However, following a reported subsequent fallout with then Brazilian technical director, René Simoes, the striker was not selected for CONCACAF Group Two away games against Canada, Mexico and Honduras.
Alternatives
In the striker's absence, interim coach Theodore Whitmore is likely to go with the pair of Luton Shelton and Ricardo Fuller up front.
Currently at the bottom of the table on a single point, Jamaica will need to win their remaining home games in order to avoid elimination from the competition. The team tackles Mexico at 7 p.m. tomorrow at the National Stadium, and Honduras on Wednesday at the same venue.
