  • Jamaica v. MexTico....(may be on Fox SC)

    Moreno was called up by Eriksson

    Alkmaar defender Hector Moreno was called up to play for Mexico on Friday for the first time under coach Sven-Goran Eriksson, who named a 23-man roster ahead of World Cup qualifying games against Jamaica and Canada.

    The 20-year-old Moreno was the biggest surprise in the team that will play at Jamaica on Oct. 11 and four days later at Canada.

    "I saw him play in a few games on TV," Eriksson said. "He is a starter in the Dutch league, I'm sure he will do well with us."

    After three games, Mexico leads Group B of CONCACAF qualifying with nine points. Honduras is second with six points, while Canada and Jamaica have one each.

    A victory or a draw in Kingston will send Mexico to the final round, where six teams will play for three spots at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

    "I wish we can do it in Jamaica, but at least in this two games, the roster will be the same," Eriksson said. "We will play our best men in Jamaica and then in Canada."

    The squad has nine players from European-based teams, including Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Andres Guardado, who will not be able to play against Jamaica because of suspension.

    "We know that Guardado is not going to be able to play the first match, but we want to have him on board for the second," Eriksson said.

    Squad:
    Goalkeepers: Oswaldo Sanchez (Santos), Guillermo Ochoa (America), Jose Corona (Tecos)

    Defenders: Carlos Salcido (PSV Eindhoven), Francisco Rodriguez (PSV Eindhoven), Ricardo Osorio (Stuttgart), Rafael Marquez (FC Barcelona), Aaron Galindo (Eintracht Frankfurt), Oscar Rojas (America), Hector Moreno (AZ Alkmaar), Fausto Pinto (Pachuca)

    Midfielders: Fernando Arce (Santos), Gerardo Torrado (Cruz Azul), Gonzalo Pineda (Chivas), Luis Perez (Monterrey), Giovanni Dos Santos (Tottenham), Andres Guardado (Deportivo La Coruna)

    Forwards: Carlos Ochoa (Monterrey), Carlos Vela (Arsenal), Francisco

    10 points = 2nd round!
    Reggae Boyz - 1 draw + 3 wins is the goal!

    Drama if Jamaica & Canada win....then it would be
    Mexico = 9
    Honduras = 6
    Canada = 4
    Reggae Boyz = 4

    ...with the next set of matches being
    Reggae Boyz (4pt) vs Honduras (6th)
    Canada (4pt) Mexico (9pt)

    ...all places being still up for grabs!
    ...with another set of wins for Canada and the Reggae Boyz it would come down to the last day to decide who goes forward

      Jamaica 'painted' themselves into that corner.

      The first game against Canada should be an all out win!!

      I recall the celebration over the draw...

      ~~groan~~

      Mexico's approach to the upcoming game -- is to close the deal and advance to the next round.
