Once again, you are the ref. . .

3. Allow the inexperienced official to complete the first half. He should be replaced with the 4th official, if possible. If not, the referee may ask for assistance from someone with whom both sides are comfortable. Failing that, the two remaining refs should do the job.

Yes?!
Well in that case if you stopped play re-start where the ball was when you stopped play...by dropping the ball. If the play was stopped in its normal course...i.e. ball crossed touch-line or goal-line or an infringement occured, etc. re-start play as per law...and play the 3 minutes....then troop off for half-time.
If you discovered your error in the referees' changing room. On returning play the 2nd half of 45 minutes. File a report on your silly action of playing 42 minute half.
Damn in these times of 4 refs i.e. the man-in-the-middle, two assistants and the reserve ref such a mistake is impossible unless you had a bone-headed ref whose instructions to his assistants was "you are there but to hear and obey...tell me 'nothing'! I do not want to hear from you!"
3. Calm the bloody assistant down. make some inane remark about the sky being blue...or gray...or whatever...or "Where is your wife or girlfriend now?" ...or if lady, commend for the swift running and keeping up with the ball or last defender but one...and or great positioning...or whatever is true...just calm the man or lady down.
btw - You can dispense with the use of your assistant ref...if he/she is not providing you with the needed/expected support. Fact is he/she should be on your TEAM (i.e. TEAM ref officials). Replace him/her with the available substitute. Turn in your report on your actions.
In any case your actions must not be shaped by outside persons. It must be shaped by your own observsations and conclusions! The managers coudda kick puppa-lick...if they somehow had the opportunity to contact you and engage in conversation...politely tell them "thank you!" ...and move on to making your own decision on the facts as you see it!Last edited by Karl; October 2, 2008, 12:06 PM."Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.
