  • King celebrates firing with two goals

It must have pained Rene Simoes as he watched the English Premiership game between Hull City and Newcastle United on Saturday. As if to rub salt into an open wound, Simoes’s reject, Marlon King, playing for Hull City celebrated the sacking of the Brazilian with a brace which helped his team to an historic victory at St James’s Park.

King, who scored nine goals in 15 games for Jamaica, was inexplicably left out of Jamaica’s squad for the last three World Cup games by the coach, as, according to Simoes, “he did not fit into his plans.”

King scored the first from the penalty spot in the first half to put his team 1-0 up and then scored a beauty in the second to send Hull City 2-0 up. Newcastle scored a consolation late in the game.

While Simoes, who was here on his second stint as coach, experimented with young local-based players who are hardly heroes in their own districts, a number of seasoned professional were left wondering what they had to do to make the national squad. Apart from King, Damion Stewart, Jermaine Johnson, Khari Stephenson, Claude Davis, Oneil Thompson, Claude Davis, Dane Richards, Omar Davis are all playing either in Europe or the MLS in the United States and were not considered for the last three games against Canada, Honduras or Mexico.

Simoes was fired by President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Captain Horace Burrell after the team suffered successive losses to Mexico (0-3) and Honduras (0-2) leaving Jamaica with the arduous task of winning three consecutive home games against the same teams if they are to qualify for the final round of CONCACAF World Cup eliminations.

Who will be the next coach? Will these players be considered for the three remaining home games in the World Cup? Log on to JamaicaWin.com for daily updates.

according to Simoes, “he did not fit into his plans.”
It seems is if King did not fit because Simoes had plans to lose the work.

Yuh mean tuh seh Omar Davis - tha former minister of finance - was also a baller? I get your point though Twan. Add to that list:

      Sean Fraser (Miami FC, USL)
      Ryan Johnson (San Jose, MLS)
      Omar Daley (Bradford, England)
      Nyron Nosworthy (Sunderland, England)
      Richard Langley (Luton, England)
      Jason Morrison (Norway)
      Damien Francis (Watford, England)
      Jason Euell (England)
      Simon Ford (England)
      Lee Williamson (England)
      Joel Grant (England)
      Joel Senior (Howard U, USA)
      Obrian White (Uconn, USA)
      Akeem Priestly (Uconn, USA)
      Ricardo Cousins (PMU, Jamaica)
Jerry Hue (HView, Jamaica) **have big baller deh pon bench!!!!!?????
      Chris Harvey (Joe Public, TnT)

Cho rhaas-stafari!!! The more I think about it is the more I bringle to backsfoot! Because of ego and self aggrandizement a coach left out better players for the likes of Evan Taylor, Keneil Moodie et al, and now we're facing an uphill battle to qualify. This is real almshouse iyah! As mi bredrin Rocky would opine, the coach burned down the village saying he was trying to save it!

        Story come to bump

        Observer article:

"Marlon King, the striker sidelined by sacked technical director Rene Simoes, revealed yesterday that he, too, was unsure of why he was left out of the Jamaican squad for subsequent World Cup Qualifying games, but made it clear that he did not have a personal confrontation with the Brazilian"

...and out of the 200 games shown on TV last Saturday around the world, he would want to watch Marlon King's. Must be some sort of sick obsession.
