    USA and Mexico roll on

    (FIFA.com) Wednesday 10 September 2008

El Salvador had precious little trouble dispatching Suriname in Paramaribo on Wednesday. The 2-0 win sees the Salvadorans in good shape for a place in the final ‘Hexagonal' in North, Central America and the Caribbean Zone, while it puts the Surinamese - with one point from three games in Group 3 - all but eliminated.

Shawn Martin opened the scoring for the Central Americans after only two minutes. Ten minutes later a Marlon Felter own goal signalled the end of the hosts' fight as the 2-0 scoreline stuck through to the end.
El Salvador are now on six points in the Group after three games, three points behind Costa Rica, who edged past Haiti later in Port au Prince later in the day.

A pair of goals from Blegium-based striker Bryan Ruiz (17' and 72') rendered Jean Alcenet's goal mere consolation for the home side, who are now all but eliminated with only one point from three games. Alpizar added a third goal to make the final scoreline 3-1 for the Ticos.

The United States had no trouble with Trinidad and Tobago in their first home game of the campaign. Michael Bradley got on the end of a Landon Donovan free kick to open the scoring early and Clint Dempsey added another in the first period. The Americans rounded out the 3-0 win in the second half with a goal from Brian Ching.

The Americans have scored five goals in their three matches so far, conceding zero for a spot at the top of Group 1.

Mexico didn't have it all their own way against Canada on Wednesday, but still managed a 2-1 win in Chiapas. Supersub Omar Bravo opened the scoring in the 58th minute with a peerless header. Rafa Marquez then nodded one of his own to make Ali Gerba's subsequent strike nothing more than consolation as Mexico kept up their perfect record with a 2-1 win.

Honduras kept hold of Mexico's coat tails in Group 2 with a 2-0 win over Jamaica in San Pedro Sula. Amado Guevara scored from the spot to double Ramon Nunez' opener in a result that will most lkely see the Catrachos through to the final round alongside Mexico.

Guatemala moved level with Trinidad in second spot in Group 1 behind the USA with a convincing 4-1 win over Cuba in Guatemala City. Roberto Linares put the visitors into a lead mid-way through to the first half, only drawing the hosts' wrath in the process. All time Guatemala top scorer Carlos Ruiz bagged himself a pair of goals and Mario Rodriguez and Jorge Contreras added insurance goals inside the last five minutes.

    Results:
    Suriname 0-2 El Salvador
    Haiti 1-2 Costa Rica
    USA 3-0 Trinidad and Tobago
    Mexico 2-1 Canada
    Honduras 2-0 Jamaica
    Guatemala 4-1 Cuba
