Honduras fear Simoes like poison!

Rene Simoes is not a popular man in Honduras. His record against that team is spectacular, having knocked them out of the World Cup on more than one occasion. Simoes has played four games against Honduras and has won twice, however, those two wins killed the dreams of that nation to qualify for the World Cup on two consecutive occasions.
The first game between Rene Simoes and Honduras was played on September 15, 1996 in qualifying for France 1998 at the National Stadium. Jamaica won 3-0 with two goals from Walter Boyd and another from Theodore Whitmore.
The second time the Honduras saw the face of Simoes in the same campaign in San Pedo Sula, the Reggae Boyz recorded a dramatic 0-0 draw which effectively broke the back of the hosts and pushed them out of that World Cup.
The only win for Honduras was in the 2000 Gold Cup in Miami. On that occasion Honduras won 2-0 with goals from Carlos Pavon and Samuel Caballero.
On October 7, 2001, in the qualifications for Japan-Korea 2002, Honduras was again beaten by Simoes, eliminating the Central Americans from the World Cup for the second consecutive campaign. The victor on that occasion was Trinidad and Tobago who won 1-0 in the Olympic Stadium in San Pedro Sula, site of Wednesday’s game.
Honduras are on top of the World after beating Canada on Saturday, but they are weary that Simoes walks with a dagger with their name on it.
