FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Re: Jamaica vs Mexico WCQ game, 6 September, 2008
Following the passage of tropical storm Gustav, a meeting was held on Sunday, 31 August between the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), through its President, Captain Horace Burrell and General Secretary, Horace Reid and the Minister of Information, Culture, Youth & Sports, Hon. Olivia Grange and other Government representatives.
Both the JFF and the Ministry concluded that the devastation caused by Gustav to significant infrastructure of the country, and the continued dislocation to scores of residents in numerous communities, including lack of electricity and running water, destruction of roads, bridges, houses etc, would prove extremely challenging for the country at this time to stage any major sporting or entertainment event at any of our main venues.
Additionally, the damage done to the playing surface at the National Stadium from the severe flooding caused by the heavy and persistent rainfall between Thursday, 28 and Saturday, 30 August, has rendered the field almost unplayable for the Jamaica versus Mexico World Cup qualifying game scheduled for 6 September.

The authorities are far from being confident on having the venue ready for the afore-mentioned game and especially in light of another tropical storm (Hanna) forecasted to affect Jamaica later in the coming week with significant rainfall.
During the afore-mentioned meeting, the President of the JFF had telephone discussions with the FIFA Vice President and President of CONCACAF, Mr. Jack Warner and Mr. Jerome Champagnie of the FIFA on the captioned matter.
Consequently, the FIFA has decided to revise the schedule between Jamaica and Mexico, thus reversing the playing dates of both countries as follows:
· Mexico versus Jamaica
6 September, 2008 at 5:00 pm
Azteca Stadium, Mexico City
· Jamaica versus Mexico
11 October, 2008 at 1:00 pm
National Stadium, Kingston
The Jamaica Football Federation regrets any inconvenience caused by the afore-mentioned changes taken in the best interest of the country’s citizenry.
The President of the JFF, Captain Horace Burrell is available for comments at: 990-7017.
Please be guided accordingly.
