Simoes' goals remain the same (Part one of two)



His trademark moustache is still thick, but flecked with more grey now. A spot atop his head betrays more missing strands than he cares to count. His English is better, but some words still get nipped off at the end. It was eight years ago that René Simoes was last intimately attached to Jamaica, and some things are definitely different.

What a bam bam, we have or do not have more gifted players now..?
And what of the savage attacks on our fellow ites that wanted Whitmore on previous teams(the great Simoes tried to..the current Whitmore)?
Anyway, Bibi and Ricketts are better today, Nandi is famous for once being a potent striker, not a defender(a position Simoes wanted..), my point is even after WC 98, legends were made.
The talk about team work is reassuring, but dat deh bout loong before 1998.
Dem youth yah haffi prove demself, we may never be lucky enough to another, Boyd, Nandi, and Whitmore though.

FOR A while, René Simoes shied away from Jamaica's embrace.
Six years coaching the nation's football programme, he said, meant it was time to move on. The Boyz' s flagging results near the end of his tenure did not help persuade him to stay either.
The glow that followed the man with 'Jesus Saves' written on his shirt during the '98 'Road to France' campaign was finally wearing off.
