Boyz depart for El Salvador friendly in Texas

        Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Jamaica's Reggae Boyz will depart the island today for their friendly international against Central American team El Salvador at the Pizza Hut Stadium in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday.
        Game time is 6:00 pm.
Technical director Rene Simoes has named a 20-man squad for the encounter, which will be the 16th meeting of the two nations.
US Major Leaguers Andy Williams and Omar Cummings and Trinidad & Tobago-based Wolry Wolfe will be the only overseas players in the squad and will join the rest of the team in the USA.
The other members of the squad are England-born Nathan Koo-Boothe, Donovan Ricketts, John-Ross Doyley, Ricardo Cousins, Keammar Daley, Eric Vernan, Kavin Bryan, Shawn Sawyers, Jermaine Taylor, O'Brian Woodbine, Keniel Moodie, Adrian Reid, Lance Laing, Evan Taylor, Hugh Howell, Javaughn Watson and James Thomas.
The local-based players wrapped up a one-week training camp at Grand Lido Braco in Trelawny on Sunday.
Jamaica - placed in Group B of the semi-finals of the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying campaign against powerhouse Mexico, Canada and Honduras - will be using the El Salvador game as preparation for their upcoming exploits in what has been dubbed the "Group of Death".
El Salvador, ranked 117 by FIFA, will cross swords for a place in the finals of the qualifiers with Group C combatants Costa Rica, Haiti and Suriname, and like Jamaica, are treating this match-up as crucial practice for the CONCACAF qualifying play-offs.
Group A of the qualifying series will be contested by Trinidad & Tobago, Cuba, Guatemala and the USA.
Meanwhile, general secretary of the Jamaica Football Federation, Horace Reid, said the El Salvador encounter is important in keeping with the federation's plan to give the senior Boyz the best possible preparation going into the South Africa 2010 World Cup-qualifying play-offs.
"It is important to play international games in preparation for the World Cup qualifying tournament, and also to blood a local-based team for the Digicel Caribbean Cup which will be held here in Jamaica in December," he said.
"It's also important to give local players international exposure, so they can improve and move to the next level," he added.
In 15 meetings between Jamaica (ranked 94) and El Salvador - with the first dating back to 1963 - Jamaica have won six, lost five and drew four. The Boyz most significant victory against their Central American opponents was a historic 3-0 in a World Cup qualifying game in San Salvador in 2004. That scoreline was repeated in a friendly international at the National Stadium on November 18, 2007 - the last time the countries met.

It is typical for a team lineup to include the names of the clubs and the age of the ballers. Also, it looks like dem beat Boxhill's record with so much team officials traveling.

Very young team. We see the direction Simoes moving in.

Put "Portmore" behind 50% of those players.

Yes, the support party seems rather huge for a one-off firendly match. Where are those who use to squeal when this happened 2 years ago?

                We should all be consistent.
