  • "The formula"

Here is the El Salvador coach on "the formula" which has his team winning.

it confirms totally my view of fundamental positives and negatives for success.

(That formula, which proved so effective in beating Panama, makes for deceptively simple reading. "Even though Salvadoran players are not the biggest physically, they have very good technique and skills. Moreover, they possess good stamina, which allows them to maintain a good rhythm during the game. Then there's their tactical discipline and positional sense, which helps them keep their shape on the pitch. Not having any big-name stars means we focus on the group," says the coach.)

This man have it down to the T.

What do we have now, fast, strong physical players if we want, but don't understand how to maximize this advantage fully, what we don't have is good technique, we have lots of individual skill, we do not possess good stamina from a team standpoint and give up goals and fall apart even in games which we dominate, we saw that in the Bahamas game twice. Tactical discipline we can obtain with simoes hopefully. There it is those are the fundamentals what we have and what we don't have. That is clear now we know what we have to do the question is do we have the heart and discipline to do it.

Easy to talk about what you want, but harder to coach it, and get what you want under pressurized match conditions. At least the aspirations are clear.

Man who grow up in a system of incompetence not going to show any tactical discipline. The man them around a decade behind other players in the world when it come to tactics. Any coach have to just put that into account when formulating his strategy for our team.

That is the vey reason why we must emphasize physical size, strength and speed and take it to another level with stamina, we know the skill is there, the team approach in attack and defense is woefully weak.

Where i really see the gap in jakan ball and say mex ball is when jakan teams play mex style teams just in any pick up games, any 11vs 11 or any scrimmage situation, the mex aproach to team ball is superior in every way, there is no grandstanding, nuff running off the ball, nuff teamwork all the way round, our one on one skill is always impressive our strength and speed phenomenal but when the game result comes up many times even in those basic scrimmages we are left holding the bag. The approach to the game and the way it is taught in mex is far superior to anything we have in Ja.

Yeah, exactly the case. we must use the advantages we have to move forward, again speed, size, strength, then improve that with stamina and phyical conditioning which can be done, then add the defence first, counter attack mentality and we can make things happen, sorry to say it, but this is not pretty ball as nuff man want, we can't play that type of ball we have never played it consistently, every now and then you see a glimpse like uSA vs Ja in DC in 98 qualifying but that was the last time i saw our "Joga bonita' ah suh it spell me not so sure.

Agree on all your have said excepting not sure I understand that 'technique vs individual skill' thing?

            Technique vs individual skill?

We have two players with good technique (i.e. good individual skill) - Bibi & King! The control and the use of the ball is of high quality (i.e. they "talk to the ball and it obeys" most often). They also...at this moment...are our best TEAM players!

            Reserve - Burton.

The Mexs emphasise TEAM and the having of good technical skills. They know that it is the TEAM that allows for 'the show' of individual players and the avenue for the individual players ability to shine through.

Seems simple enough - No continuous TEAM progress...no continuous individual player exposure! Make TEAM great and 'the fooball and the players' (...and the coaches and the nation's 'other football people') are likely to develop...via exposure...great market value. Simple really!
