LOS ANGELES (AP) -El Salvador and Guatemala played to a scoreless tie in a friendly match at the Los Angeles Coliseum on Sunday.
El Salvador's William Reyes, Rudis Corrales and Christian Castillo all took shots on goal in the first half as Ricardo Foster made two saves, while the other shots were off target.
Guatemala had one notable attempt from captain Guillermo Ramirez in the 25th minute, who struck a shot from about 30 yards that forced Juan Jose Gomez to make a save.
El Salvador maintained the pressure in the second half, but sabotaged perhaps their best attack in the 49th minute, when captain Alfredo Pacheco sent in a cross to the middle of the box, where Reyes met the ball with a volley attempt.
The shot was headed toward goal, but the ball deflected off his own teammate, Rudis Corrales, before it could enter the net.
Guatemala came closest to scoring in the 55th minute, when a play off a corner kick led to a header from Carlos Castillo, but Reyes blocked the attempt off the line.
Late corner kick chances for both sides kept the crowd of around 40,000 in place until the final whistle.
Guatemala and El Salvador are preparing for the next round of World Cup qualifying for the CONCACAF region.
