Wigan signed King for £5m from Watford in January 2008
Hull City manager Phil Brown has told BBC Radio Humberside he has made a bid for Wigan striker Marlon King.
Talks have taken place with Latics manager Steve Bruce about the 28-year-old and the deal has now moved up to "chairman-to-chairman" level.
He said: "There's a lot of work to do. If I get the chance to sit down with him, then who knows where it will go."
Brown has also confirmed the club have bid a club record fee (in excess of £2m) for an as-yet-unnamed striker.
But the player is not Manchester United's Frazier Campbell who spent last season on loan with the Tigers.
However, they are still hopeful of being able to bring the 20-year old back to the KC Stadium.
And Brown feels King would be a good partner for the youngster.
"I've been speaking to Steve Bruce at length and the chairman has spoken to their chairman and there is a bid on the table which has not been disclosed," he said.
"We've got bids on the table for a couple of strikers and Marlon is one of them."
Meanwhile, the Premier League newcomers have also lodged bids for two central defenders - one of which is Bolton's Abdoulaye Meite.
However, Brown has dismissed national newspaper reports linking him with Noe Pamarot of Portsmouth.
