  • U.S. goalkeeper Guzan to sign with Aston Villa

Guzan set to leave MLS for Aston Villa

After falling short in his bid to depart Major League Soccer for Europe earlier this year, Brad Guzan is finally set to leave MLS for England.

The Chivas USA goalkeeper is heading to Aston Villa on a $1.5 million transfer after Villa and Major League Soccer agreed to the fee and completed the transfer on Friday, sources with knowledge of the deal confirmed to ESPNsoccernet.

Guzan had a transfer move to Villa blocked after failing to secure a British work permit in January, but it is believed that Guzan will secure his work permit now after playing in five of the U.S. national team's eight matches this year.

Villa agree deal for keeper Guzan

Aston Villa have agreed a fee, believed to be about £2m, with American side Chivas USA for goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

The 23-year-old, who has won five caps for the USA, had been linked with a number of clubs in Europe but has decided to join Villa.

Villa have been searching for a new goalkeeper since Scott Carson returned to Liverpool after a season-long loan and Thomas Sorenson was released.

        Guzan secures work permit

Aston Villa have been granted a work permit for the Chivas USA goalkeeper Brad Guzan.

Villa revived their interest in the 24-year-old US international earlier this summer after initially failing to secure a work permit for the keeper when they first attempted to sign him in January.

Villa are believed to have agreed a fee of around $2 million with Chivas to land the highly-rated shot-stopper, who is regarded as one of the brightest homegrown prospects in Major League Soccer.
