U-20 squad boosted ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Vancouver Whitecaps and former National U-17 striker and captain, Dever Orgill, overseas-based Yanique Salmon, National Senior team representative Evan Taylor and the injured John-Ross Doyley have boosted the National U-20 squad, which is preparing for the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers in the Cayman Islands later this month.
    TAYLOR... recent Senior team debutant
Assistant coach Donovan Duckie said experienced players were important to the team and the inclusion of these players will improve the level of the squad, especially Orgill.
"They understand the system of play and adapt quickly to how we want them to play on the field... but it's also important to have players who can take the responsibility to put the ball in the net," he added.
Salmon and Doyley were both members of the last U-17 team, captained by Orgill, which just missed qualifying for that World Cup Finals.
And along with recent Senior team debutant Evans, the three, Duckie noted, will bolster the team's midfield and offence.
Doyley, an important member of that U-17 team, was out with an injured ankle but has recovered and Duckie said they intend to get the midfielder in the best possible shape before the team leaves for the tournament.
All 25 players participated in training on Monday and Duckie said it was an encouraging session. He is confident that based on the team's progress, the coaching staff will have the players exactly where they want them to be at the end of next week.
"The players have been responding very well and the training is progressing just right," Duckie declared.
Meanwhile, Sporting Central's Akeem Annakie, St George's Orlando Melhado and York FC's Kevin Bascom were omitted from the squad.
The Jamaicans take on Bermuda, Puerto Rico and hosts Cayman Islands in Group B of the Qualifiers from July 21-28.
