  • Chelsea sign Barca playmaker Deco

Deco has won both the European and Uefa Cup in his career

Chelsea have signed Portugal midfielder Deco from Spanish giants Barcelona for a fee of about £8m.
The 30-year-old was recently told by Barca's new coach Pep Guardiola that he did not feature in their future plans.
"It is good for me to be here and first of all I am very happy to be here," Deco told Chelsea's official website.
Deco becomes the Blues' first signing since Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari was appointed manager earlier this month.
However, his signing is Chelsea's second of the summer after international team-mate Jose Bosingwa.
Brazil-born Deco joined Barcelona from Porto in 2004 after helping the Portuguese side win the Uefa Cup, Champions League and domestic league titles under former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.

He won two league championships with the Catalan giants, and was part of the team that beat Arsenal in the Champions League final in Paris in 2006.
However, a series of injuries hampered him during the 2007/08 season, and he made just 14 starts in Barcelona's La Liga campaign.
"I am sure I have come at the right time to do great things and be able to help Chelsea go back to the way it was and come back to being the first one, not only in England but also to win the Champions League that has been their dream for so long," added Deco.
"The Premier League is a great league and it is getting better and you can see that with the Champions League final, where you had two English teams."
Deco's arrival significantly boosts a midfield line-up already featuring the likes of Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack, Michael Essien, Jon Mikel Obi and Claude Makelele. "It is great that we have so many great players here at Chelsea and it is great that there is the competition which is healthy for everybody and this just makes the team better. "To have great players in any position of the club just enhances the club. I know it is a new challenge but I am looking forward to it," he added.
"Jamaica's future reflects its past, having attained only one per cent annual growth over 30 years whilst neighbours have grown at five per cent." (Article)

Don't like that signing. Like Shevchenko (not as bad though) you are getting a player that is old and has lost a step and you are putting them in a league that players usually take a year or two to adjust to the pace. Scolari has been successful anywhere so he will probably find a way to make it work.

signing Deco means Frank Lampard gone?

Milan. The special one has said over and over that he wants him and Drogba on his team. Lampard hasn't signed a new contract yet.

Has Inter made an offer for Lampard as yet? Its not like Lampard was busy winning Euro 2008. Maybe the "special one" realize the talent he has in his midfield at Inter. But ... we'll wait and see.

Well you wouldn't know if he made an offer but some media are reporting that they have agreed on a contract. Isn't Lampart out of contract or can opt out?

He has one year left on his contract. I've seen rumours ... haven't seen anything where an offer was made. Inter has a talented squad. Dem midfield deep like the pacific ocean ... their front line is led by Zlatan the Swede.

Same could have been said about Chelsea.

however the coach want his bwoy and that has to be a factor in any deal.

Inter Milan midfield needs better attacking talent.

Stankovic, Cambiasso, Figo, Viera, Dacourt and Pele don't really drive fear into any defense.

Don't think Lampard is the answer although the pace of league could allow him a few more effective years than he would have in the EPL.

Lampard was always on his way out of Stamford Bridge whether Chelsea signed Deco or not. His agent hasn't been able to work out a new deal with Chelsea for the last 2 years and now that Mourinho is at Inter, he will infact end up there at some point. If not this season then next.

Btw..Deco is a great signing for Chelsea even at his age. He is a very very underrated player especially as far as his passing ability is concerned.
