UWI to be unveiled as site for JFF Training Centre

    Thursday, June 26, 2008

The University of the West Indies (UWI) is expected to be announced today as the proposed site for the Football Training Centre at a press conference at the campus' Gold Room, Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Centre at 11:00 am.

The function will be addressed by pro-vice chancellor and principal of UWI, Mona, Professor Gordon Shirley; president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Captain Horace Burrell; minister of information, culture, youth and sports, the Hon Olivia Grange, and minister of education, the Hon Andrew Holness.

Also in attendance will be the FIFA Development Officer for the region, Trinidadian Harold Taylor.

Negotiations between the two parties have been ongoing since the return of Burrell to the presidency of the country's football, especially after the JFF board opted to do away with the Football Academy and Training Centre that was under construction in St Elizabeth.

Since then FIFA has granted approval to the Burrell-led JFF to undertake another Training Centre.

THERE IS ONLY ONE ONANDI LOWE!

"Good things come out of the garrisons" after his daughter won the 100m Gold For Jamaica.

"It therefore is useless and pointless, unless it is for share malice and victimisation to arrest and charge a 92-year-old man for such a simple offence. There is nothing morally wrong with this man smoking a spliff; the only thing wrong is that it is still on the law books," said Chevannes.

No, you misinformed pimp! The Mona Hockey Field is not a part of UWI. And yuh don't want to play football on that artificial turf!

I think they didn't want to have to deal with that ant's nest called Spanish Town. And if distance was a problem with the Munro site, then certainly GCF is further than UWI to...well, everything. And of course, with the new peace treaty in August Town, everyting criss!

I don't think the field condition is a factor. I don't expect the JFF to just take over di people dem field. They better have a plan to build some for themselves.

First, I think both of them are very limited. They both would have to encroach on the ant's nest that surrounds both institutions. Not sure which has more. There is some undeveloped land around Rex Hall. GCF looked rather maxed out when I saw it.

Gordon Shirley was appointed Ambassor to Washington under the PNP administration and he was appointed the head of UWI so go figure.
