UWI to be unveiled as site for JFF Training Centre
Thursday, June 26, 2008
The University of the West Indies (UWI) is expected to be announced today as the proposed site for the Football Training Centre at a press conference at the campus' Gold Room, Mona Visitors' Lodge and Conference Centre at 11:00 am.
The function will be addressed by pro-vice chancellor and principal of UWI, Mona, Professor Gordon Shirley; president of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), Captain Horace Burrell; minister of information, culture, youth and sports, the Hon Olivia Grange, and minister of education, the Hon Andrew Holness.
Also in attendance will be the FIFA Development Officer for the region, Trinidadian Harold Taylor.
Negotiations between the two parties have been ongoing since the return of Burrell to the presidency of the country's football, especially after the JFF board opted to do away with the Football Academy and Training Centre that was under construction in St Elizabeth.
Since then FIFA has granted approval to the Burrell-led JFF to undertake another Training Centre.
