ROCK, Trelawny - Tempers flared and police had to be called in at one Trelawny venue as tickets for today's return-leg CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier between Jamaica and the Bahamas went on sale.
The situation at the sale site was tense at one stage, with one man who was assaulted leaving only to return with re-enforcement.
It is understood that the small number of bleachers tickets were sold off in less then 30 minutes as dozens of residents of the parish descended on the vehicle from which it was being sold on the property of a popular seaside restaurant.
One man, who is said to be a licensed firearm holder and who was reportedly physically assaulted, raced out of the venue and returned later with at least two other men, but the situation was cooled down with the intervention of Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) officials, third vice-president Raymond Anderson and Council Member Carlton 'Spanner' Dennis.
Uniformed police personal later showed up as well.
Anderson, who is also in charge of operations, told the Observer that from reports, tickets were being sold at a brisk pace and all 2000 bleachers tickets had been
sold off.
The bleachers tickets were being sold for $500 and will be for the uncovered, standing area directly behind each goal.
Anderson said however they still had tickets for the north and south stands and mound areas ranging between $2,500 and $3,000, and those that had not been sold at other venues around the island would go on sale at Glistening Waters as of 8:30 am today.
Despite Jamaica's big 7-0 win in the first leg, Anderson said signs were that demands for tickets were still high as fans clamoured for a chance to see the Reggae Boyz in action.
A month ago, JFF president Captain Horace Burrell had strongly urged fans to turn out for the game during a press conference held at StarFish Resorts.
